The Fire of Dawn: Immortality is only the beginning (Volume 1) Paperback – April 18, 2012
About the Author
Born and raised in The Netherlands, V.V. Aku (Veerle Ackerstaff) soon discovered that the world was a place worth exploring. After graduating high school, she set out to travel the globe until she finally touched down in China. On the border of Tibet she met Anzi Aku, a wild Black-Yi man who lives at the foot of the Himalayas. She has joined his clan and tries to find her place among the tribe and its shamans. When she’s not researching the clan’s mythology on vampires, she shamelessly gives in to the compulsion to write about the countless characters that haunt her dreams. V.V. Aku is the author of The Fire of Dawn and Black Dusk. She has been the creator of stories since the age of three, and has a Post-Graduate Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults from The University of Cambridge ESOL. After nearly a decade of working as an English language teacher and TEFL trainer in China, Thailand, The Netherlands, and the UK, she now devotes all her time to writing, her family, and practicing Kung Fu. The Fire of Dawn is her debut novel.

The point was a little overdone but with enough action and intrigue that it wasn't objectionable.
Contains good points of discussion for Book Clubs.
We are introduced to a variety of characters. There is her friends, her parents, her true people who are looking for her, and then there is the Brotherhood. She is thrown into the middle of chaos and must either sink or swim. She was born with special abilities. She is the 1st of a royal blood line.
Then there is Max, the love of her life. But he isn't the only one who ends up being special in Leah's new life there is also Adam who just happens to be a part of the Brotherhood, an organization who wants her kind all dead. And yet there is good and bad in everyone. Adam is a man who believes there is hope that together Leah's people and the Brotherhood can find a way to co-exist in peace so no one else has to die.
I loved the locations that she used for her story. My only problem with it was being able to pronounce the names of the towns, but that didn't stop me from enjoying the story in the least. V.V. Aku is definitely an author I have added to my list of favorites.
I received a complimentary copy from author/publisher in return for an honest review.
Leah Koopman's is a young woman who just turned eighteen and that is exactly the time when everything changes in her life. She finds out the hard way that she isn't quite human and that some brotherhood is hunting her since the day she was born. Beside that she cannot seem to help herself when her body craves for one thing: human blood.
Soon she meets Max Machiavelli and is immediately attracted to him. It appears he is an immortal and he tells her that Leah is one of them. The immortals have been searching for her since the day she was born too, but not to kill because she might be the key to reunite all the covens and hopefully get rid of the brotherhood who hunts them once and for all.
I simply loved Leah, she is strong, determined and easy to love; after her first experience with the whole immortal thing I have to say she handles things just the way it should be. It was good to see she didn't trust anyone that easily, she even doubted Max at first, but of course she can trust Max because he is her mate and he would die protecting her.
V.V. Aku has written a fabulous novel with amazing characters and a great storyline that will take you on an adventure through Europe and Russia. This author really took me by surprise with this debut book and I'm definitely going to keep my eye on her to see what else she's going to write.
