very good game, pretty good special edition
4 out of 5 stars
very good game, pretty good special edition
I like the game a lot. It's not the brilliance of Awakening or Fates, but it's a 4.5 stars in my mind. The limited edition isn't bad, but compared to the Fates limited edition, it's not near as exciting. It's still pretty cool, but where I rounded up just the game to 5 stars, I'm rounding this down to 4 stars.Don't get me wrong, the artbook is really nice. The soundtrack is cool. I like the pins. The double-sided cover is one of the best parts. But there should have been one more thing. The Japanese special came with an awesome bluray. The European came with the Amiibos. I would have paid $80 if it included the amiibos! If not the amiibos or bluray, throw in a small DLC. If it was something unique, awesome. Even if it was something that would be available for sale later, give us a timed advantage on a DLC that isn't part of the season pass. I almost feel like we didn't get as good a special edition because Nintendo knew we would buy it anyway. At $60 that it wasn't a bad price for what you're getting. So I'm not saying it wasn't worth it, but I definitely think it's not worth a scalper price! The game itself is pretty good. As I said before, I think the gameplay is a step back from Awakening and Fates. Because it's a remake of a very old game, some of the mechanics we expect in Fire Emblem aren't here or different. There is no weapons triangle! The recruitment isn't really explained and I totally missed it at first. It's a hard game even if you have permadeath off. I hear it's pretty true to the original, but I kinda wish they had built the remake off of the gameplay of Fates instead of taking things out. I am enjoying it. I'm happy to play it all the way through. But I think I'll be done and I don't think I'll buy any DLC.Also, the new 3D dungeons are actually really cool. I love going and looking for hidden stuff. I thought it wouldn't fit, but it works great. It really helps to mix things up.The music and graphics are really great. The map graphics are equal to the last two games but the individual fights have been kicked up a knotch. The animation is spectacular. It's also good to see that they were able to keep feet in... :) The music is very good and equal to the last few Fire Emblem games.Overall, I would round up the game itself from a 4.5 to a 5. But the special edition needs one more thing to be, well, special. That's why I rate this a 4.0. By All means, get the game if your a Fire Emblem fan. Just don't pay scalper rates for the SE!

A lot of collectors/limited editions of games come with items that do not justify the extra price. This is not the case here. I was pleasantly surprised by the high quality items included for an extra $20.

Some reviewers have complained that their games were damaged from being shipped in an envelope. Mine came in a box, so the game arrived undamaged.

The art book is a nice hardcover with some great drawings. Most of the drawings are just character models, so nothing too exciting, but it's still a very nice book.

The three pins were very cool. They are a high quality metal with a nice glossy character model on each of them. They are probably my favorite part of this limited edition.

The soundtrack has a generous amount of songs on it, I hope to listen to it once I play the game more.

You get a lot of value for $20 more - the pins could easily be sold individually by Nintendo for $5 a piece, the soundtrack seems to be worth around $10, and the art book also seems around $10. For $20 extra, you get, at least according to my valuation, an extra $35 worth of swag.

Bottom line: if you can snag this for retail price, this is a must own for Fire Emblem fans. I would say even consider paying up to around $70 from resalers if you can.

Special edition:
The packaging itself is gorgeous to look at, makes for a nice display piece on a collection.
The book isn't of the highest quality on the outside but it's still a hardcover. It's rather short in content, but the pages are large in size and I love the artstyle.
I love the concept that the CD takes in having both the 8-bit tracks and their remakes, I just felt that a few great pieces from the game are missing.
The pins are nice and I already wore one at a convention.
Overall one of my favorite special editions I own.

The game itself:
It's a classic take on the Fire Emblem series that feels very fresh for those of us that started playing this series from the 3DS.
I would love them to keep remaking the old titles that never came to the west. If you like other games in the series, this is a different take on the formula.
For new players, however, I'd still recommend something like Awakening or Fates: Birthright to begin with. As those games are more streamlined and much more user-friendly.

I've been playing Fire Emblem for years and was really looking forward to this release.

Been playing the game for a couple of hours and it's great. It's fun, it's nostalgic, it's fresh.
Fantastic game for both veterans and new comers to the franchise.

I was lucky enough and got a chance to pre-order this limited edition. The artbook is great, the soundtrack is awesome too. I don't know what I'll do with the pins but they're nice to have too. <3

However; the only downside to this is that Amazon decided to send this huge limited edition on a poor envelope, and a very tight envelope by the way... :-(

The box came damaged on the corners; no big deal, I still love Amazon. But man, that packaging :-(

A friend of mine who also bought this edition told me he also received the game on an envelope and was damaged as well, so I guess there will be other buyers with the same issue. It's a real shame with this otherwise beautiful release.

Since this limited edition sold out within minutes I won't have a chance to send the game back and request a replacement, so I'll have to live with it. I'll survive, tho.

I'm so happy with this Limited edition! The art book is very large and simply beautiful. The sound track has thirty song; way more than I was anticipating. The Pins are metal backed and very good quality. A neat little add on is you can flip the insert on the game case, the reverse side shows artwork and graphics from the original edition of the game. I really believe for only $20 more than the standard edition you really get some high quality swag.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Game

The Limited Edition is a must have for any fan of the series. For a remake of a very simple story it was amazing, the progression of Alm's route was very memorable although Celica's route had some new twists compared to Gaidan. Post-game there isn't much other than a surprising boss at the final dungeon. Replayability isn't that great but reliving the story even for old Emblemiers was fantastic. The game is somewhat friendly to newcomers, the game itself is mildly challenging but for fans of the series it should be a breeze even on Hard mode.
As for the contents of the Limited Edition it comes with everything as shown in the picture, the artbook is quite short and small similar to that of Fate's Limited Edition but is quite beautiful, the pins are smooth but can get scratched if you're very careless, the Sound Selection definitely brings nostalgia but doesn't include some of the beautiful orchestral music heard within the game. Overall great game and the Limited Edition is well worth it I would recommend it to anyone who has played a Fire Emblem game before.

This special edition was definitely worth the price. Outside box is gorgeous with the detailing being present on the innermost packaging as well. The pins are a great addition to any collection, and a nice bonus, and the artbook is home to many gorgeous pieces. The game itself is gorgeous and an incredible rendition of the original Gaiden. If you're a fan of the Fire Emblem franchise this is definitely a special edition you should add to your collection! And if you're a die-hard Gaiden fan, try removing the covering for the game itself. The reverse cover art is definitely something I appreciated.
