A love this hot knows no rules...
A high stakes lesson ... Charleston Times reporter Sharon MacCabe has worked hard to move from intern to full-fledged journalist. So when a series of arson fires across the city turns into a string of murders, she's ready to investigate. But her excitement soon turns to disappointment when her boss gives the assignment to a senator's nephew. Determined to prove herself, Sharon decides to probe the case on her own. But first she'll have to gain the trust of Charleston's new Fire Captain...
In love and trust ... Matthew Payton has reason to be wary of reporters. As a firefighter in Pittsburgh, the press falsely accused him of arson in a blaze that killed his own sister, leading him to resign. Now he's trying to bury that painful chapter and start over. When Sharon insists on collaborating, Matthew is suspicious yet also attracted to this lovely, tenacious young woman--and the feeling is mutual. As the two work closely together, Matthew finds his defenses breaking down, and his heart opening up. But their growing intimacy is about to be threatened when they discover they are pawns in a corrupt political game, one that may cost them their love--and their lives....

The main characters, Sharon McCabe and Matthew Payton were well-developed and complex. Both had trust issues (hers from previous relationships and from her editor's dishonesty about her demotion; his from being wrongly accused in his sister's death). And both were headstrong and stubborn. But in spite of their personality clash from their first meeting and several times after, their dogged pursuit of the truth in investigating the series of business fires plaguing the city, and their slow burning romance provide for wonderfully riveting storylines. I also enjoyed the minor characters because they added to story development. In my opinion, there were no throwaway characters in this book.
I received an advance copy of this ebook in return for an honest review. In my opinion, readers who enjoy romance and/or suspense books will enjoy On Fire by Patricia Sargeant.
Sharon works for the local newspaper and is assigned to the beat of the fire department. Just got a promotion and feeling good about her career. On a very cold day sharon is called into her boss office and there was a young man sitting down. The introductions was made "sharon meet lucas, lucas is eric the sentor newphew, he will be taking the beat and you are assign to".
Matthew finds himself running from pittsburg to charleston from his worst nightmare. His past is so complicated and sad that you really feel sorry for him. All the trust for people went out the door in pittsburg. So when sharon comes to interview him for the newsapaper it was a rough ride for sharon. But what he don't know is that sharon has done her homework on him. The internet is a dangerous tool" all his info stood out but sharon didnt judge him. Just waiting for him to come forth with the truth. The death of his sister cause him to lock that door and throw away that key. But little did he know someone had sat him up again for a fall.
Sharon was still showing up to the fires to find out the young man wasn't showing up to report the fires. That made her so mad, running into her boss office to tell on him and wondering how was he writing the events without showing up. Come to find out he has a insider to give up all the information.
Before sharon and matthew could put their heads togther someone attacks matthew while he was jogging and caught sharon in the parking lot of her job. Things had gotten so bad, killings of the characters. Matthew got suspened and sharon quits her job on behalf of matthew. Not giving alot away of the juicy plot...just say sharon and matthew puts
Their heads together to solve the mystery of the fires that could cost alot of lives
By Patricia Sargeant
Who knew Sharon MacCabe, reporter for the Charleston Times would find the Right Kind of Lover?
Sharon MacCabe, a write for the Charleston Times, who’d been assigned to the Fire department for the past 6 months would be involved in covering an arsonist?
Sharon’s boss Wayne assigned her to this beat to only tell her, that the spot was now being assigned to Lucas Stanton, the nephew of Senator Kurt Stanton who was running again. Lucas was newly graduated from West Virginia State College and had no background in journalism. Sharon worked her way to that position, and was incised at being pushed out. Being the go getter that she is, Sharon continued with her own investigation which included interviewing the newly appointed Fire Chief Matthew Stanton.
Upon meeting sparks flare between the journalist and the fire chief! These sparks lent themselves to a difficult time for the two. Matthew found the reporter to be the typical reporter, nosey and quick to make false accusations, things he had faced back in Pittsburgh. Sharon found the fire chief to be terse, stand offish and defensive, despite painting quite a handsome picture in his uniform!
Tensions between the two don’t make it easy to find out who the arsonist is, along with Sharon no longer being assigned to the Fire Dept. Through all the modicum of put upon pleasantries, the two begin working a united front, workwise as well as personally, while both of their lives are put in danger.
Questions are asked, answers show themselves, along with Sharon finding The Right Kind of Lover for her.
Matthew Payton is a great fire fighter and investigator. After the reporters in Pittsburgh launched a campaign that deemed him the arsonist that was terrorizing the city and even killed his sister is one of those blazes, he leaves and starts existing elsewhere. He ends up is Charleston, WV as the new Fire Captain and has no use for the press.
Ms. Sargeant spun a tale that kept one engaged on numerous levels....emotional, curiosity, suspense and knowledge. We see these two working together and witness their feelings growing for each other. We get to see how this story unfolds and whether they can last. This is an awesome story that keeps us on edge and wondering.
This is a forthright review of a novel given to me for review purposes.
