About the author

Julie Mulhern is the USA Today bestselling author of The Country Club Murders and the Poppy Fields Adventures.
She is a Kansas City native who grew up on a steady diet of Agatha Christie. She spends her spare time whipping up gourmet meals for her family, working out at the gym and finding new ways to keep her house spotlessly clean--and she's got an active imagination. Truth is--she's an expert at calling for take-out, she grumbles about walking the dog and the dust bunnies under the bed have grown into dust lions.
Action, adventure, mystery, and humor are the things Julie loves when she's reading. She loves them even more when she's writing!

But Ms. Mulhern did it - again!
First let me say, I am afraid of Francis myself.
That said....Ellison and Anarchy are a great couple, the heavens aligned and put them together where they balance each other so much, it is as if there was never another for either of them. You smile when Ellison has continual flutters caused by her hubs, and how Anarchy protects without being overbearing. . .this time the crime took them both by surprise in the dead of night. To start with, Anarchy saves the cat from the burning house, which of course Ellison gets blamed for by a couple of folks, daughter included; yet between the two of them, 'aha' moments come at the oddest times. The possible bad-guy characters are hard to put a finger on because the red herrings just keep on floating through the book. Grace is growing to become a wonderful young woman, athletic and now into boys more so than hanging with Mom, yet so appreciative of her Mom and Anarchy always being there for her. Francis may chastise her daughter at whim, but stands up for her with her frosty stance, words and looks. With the swim season and trials going on, we are introduced to a new young man, and as he moved through the book, I found myself hoping he'd be a continuing kiddo in the series, but completely unable to figure out how since his parents were not friends of Ellison's. However, during the story, new friends are made, and I am quite sure they will be regulars in this fabulous series as well. Ellison pulls her own weight quite well being a good Mom and a great friend to the new young fellow as well, at swim meets and he and his dog visiting them often. And of course ideas of who the culprit of the fire and murder are...of course it is found out (and I didn't have a good idea until the end) of who it was; but the ending was not only good the 'bad guy' was found out, but the ending after that end? A surprise not seen coming and an outstanding climax, a new add to an already fabulous series.
