Even going back to re-read a few passages for this review, and the romantic anticipation of Amy’s first date with Darrel made me cry all over again, knowing that she will lose this intensely loving relationship with her man, who would be a perfect BBF. Their first date, and the story behind it is written in only a few short passages, but the romantic intensity of this first date was high.
Then part two. The unconditional love and support of her family and friends allows Amy to get herself back together and live a life with some semblance of peace, knowing her first love will be her only love. Her’s is now a sought after horse therapy ranch, and with two workers, one of whom was Darrel’s friend before his accident, have created a healing atmosphere for the horses who board with them. After a particularly great day, Amy is meeting her worker for an evening at the local bar, ending up on her own when he can’t make it.
Brock stops in at Stonie’s Bar and Grille, where his eyes are drawn to the stunning woman sitting alone at the bar, parking his backside quick smart. For Amy, the attraction to Brock was as strong as it was frightening, and from there, the story really took off. Told in a dual POV, Betty wrote both Brock and Amy’s perspectives in a concurrent way that I’ve never read before, and I REALLY enjoyed the fast pace that it seemed to create. We were getting each characters view as they moved through the book, almost as though we in their heads at the same time. I cannot explain how much I loved it.
If I’m going to be feeling the whole range of emotions from love and loss, through angst to hot sexiness, I’m definitely wanting my HEA, and while we know that the path to true love is littered with booby traps, it was there, and I can say that Betty Shreffler definitely delivered!!!
I am totally in love with this new-to-me author’s writing, and her name is Betty Shreffler. She also writes in the paranormal genre, so I’ll be checking that out, and would recommend anyone else to do the same. 5 romantically intense Stars!
Amy and Brock are perfect for each other. The chemistry between them is truly incredible. Amy fell in love at a young age, she married young, was blissfully happy and then she faced tragedy in a young age too. After losing her one true love she never imagined that she will ever fall in love again. In fact now she is fearful of committing to a relationship altogether. She hasn't dated in a long time. She has her ranch and her horses to keep her company. She loves her work and that keeps her busy. Her life might not be what she envisioned tow years ago but at least she is content. Until she meets Brock..
Brock is just the same but for different reasons. The woman he saw a future with cheated and now he is weary of women. But as soon as he see Amy on a bar all bets are off. Both of them feel the kind of attraction which cannot be ignored. Soon they're dating and spending as much time together as possible. They can't seem to have enough of each other. But life might have different plans for them, even if they belong together, they might end up going their separate ways. Or may be their love is strong enough to pull them back together..
This book is simply amazing. It's a beautiful and touching romantic story which, I think, all contemporary romance readers will enjoy a lot.
This story focuses on Brock and Amy. Brock is a cowboy with heart. Great with his hands, full of surprises, and a large heart that isn't afraid of love. Amy is a strong woman has dealt with loss and owns a horse farm. She has baggage that she must come to terms with, and I felt it was dealt with realistically. I still think Brock fell a little too fast, but he was so sweet on her and ready to do anything that I can forgive that. There's a lot that the two deal with in this story, some more surprising than others, but throughout it all, there's a constant stream of hot passion running between these two that can't be extinguished by outside forces. They're both real people, characterized well, and you can't help but become attached to them both.
Overall I really liked the story! It took me through all the feels, even at the beginning with another mini love story thrown in there. I liked the wide cast of characters, and loved the chemistry between Amy and Brock. The story is well-written with very few grammar mistakes and is paced alright. If you love cowboys or second chance romance stories, then you really want to check out this story! I highly recommend it!
