She encourages her readers to be true to themselves. "Study yourself", "Find your inner voice" and "Do a little more of what you really want to be doing everyday, and a little less of what you don't want to do, until eventually, your reality is brimming with the real ideal" are some of her mantras. Her thoughts on time management, money management, giving felt so liberating to me, like like I'd been doing what didn't come naturally to me, until now
Answering the questionnaires at the end of each session helped me learn so much about myself. Doing the "Ideal Day" exercise made me realize that I was already almost-living my ideal life; The questions at the end of money management chapter showed me that my needs are pretty simple and that I had enough money to spend on things that truly matter to me- Education and Travel.
I highly recommend this book to anybody who "didn't sign up for good enough in this lifetime", as the author says, :You signed up for awesome". I know I did.
This book is every bit the "apathy-kicking, integrity-infusing guide to defining success on your own terms" that the book description says it is. Some would argue that it contains the same concepts, repackaged - Danielle herself has said that there is nothing new under the sun. What is different about this three-part book is that along with concepts, it provides practical worksheets and a plan of action. Danielle encourages her readers to get their hands dirty and figure out what makes their fire burn brightly. Then, in part two, she stokes that fire by pushing past the things that hang most people up (past failures, fear, the desire to take the easy road) and encourages her readers to dream, and dream big. Part three discusses the difficult topics of branding oneself, time and money management, building a support system, and living generously. The book ends with a squarely placed shove from behind, propelling the reader to just start now and figure it out as you go. There is no excuse not to act, because life is too short to second-guess things. "So start now, today, here. Let it be simple, easy, electric. Be surprised, be new, be true be you. Now."
Broken into 16 sessions, this book is meant to be digested one worksheet at a time. Simple yet deep, this book will cause you to nod your head in agreement over and over again. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time... in that same spirit, take the time to determine your life as it could be - one worksheet at a time. Go out and create success on your own terms, however you define it, with this book as your guide. You have nothing to lose, and everything to gain.
