Thomas A. DeBlack's work takes the reader from the 1860 to 1874, from just before the conflict exploded to the end of Reconstruction, when Arkansas was "redeemed" with the return of Democrats to power in the state. The book is rife with tales both inspirational and heartbreaking, and interesting historical figures. It's a well-written work, and a worthy entry in an outstanding series of Arkansas histories.
