In the action scenes, I had to read closely to completely understand what was happening. But again, David seemed to help get them out of some tight spots in obviously non-human fashion.
I like that she grew and learned to respect her father for the fears he had and his frustration in dealing with a head-strong teenage girl after the death of her mother. The situation between them was well portrayed. As we used to say in my family: If the Army wanted you to have a wife and children, they would have issued them to you--in OD green. He had his responsibility, and although she didn't understand it, he couldn't put her needs first. That's life in military families. In the long run, she made him proud.
I felt also that the alien viewpoint toward earth and humans was well explained. Ignorance and pre-determined agendas have ruined many groups of people here on earth. Why would aliens be different in their desires and methods?
This is a story about learning to trust others and believing in oneself.
Because of her interest in photography, Jess stumbles upon an alien pilot in the woods shot down by her father’s army. Only the alien took on the shape of Jess’s heartthrob, her favorite movie star. Because Jess is a caring individual, no matter how quirky, she befriends David, the alien, and the race to return him to the mother ship begins.
Throughout this race, Jess learns to believe in the importance of returning David to his ship—no matter what the cost—in order to save the world. In learning to trust David, Jess learns how to believe in her ability to help others.
This is another fast-paced adventure from Eaton. I recommend it to any sci-fi enthusiast.
The main character Jess is a pretty tough chic who stands up for what she believes in. She is on a mission and she is not going to stop until she completes it. David was an interesting character as well and had a very unique way of showing affection.
If you love aliens as much as I do then you don't want to miss this book. The second novel Ashes In The Sky was just recently released this month. Get both so you don't have to wait like I do. I wish I would have picked up the second one as soon as it came out. I wanted to continue reading as soon as this book ended. I am highly anticipating reading the next one. In hope that there will be a third as well!
If you are looking for a fun and exciting new YA alien series to read then pick this one up. The adventure is just getting started. I expect that it is only going to get better.
Knowing she will upset her father Jess takes the risk and flee’s the base barely escaping with David who they are already hunting for. The pair travel in her friend’s car but are forced to ditch is when they are caught by the military police. Running into the woods they barely escape but things are far from over. It’s clear the Jess that David knows more than he is letting on but she knows she can trust him. Will they get him back to the retrieval zone in time before it’s too late? What about the secret that he’s hiding from her? What about the feelings Jess has growing the more time she spends with David?
I liked Jess as a character she’s a good person with a good heart will to help David even if it was dangerous. I also really liked David for Jess after all he looks just like her dream guy but he’s not a bad guy at all. I really found their relationship sweet starting out as just helping someone who needed help to falling in love. I really found the chemistry between the two works really well, it wasn’t insta love but it did happen fast but it worked.
I’ve had this one on my kindle for a while but decided I had to have the paperback it was to pretty not to add to my collection. I wasn’t sure what to expect really because it’s been a while since I read the synopsis other than an alien romance. Fire in the Woods is one of those books that grabs you by the first page and doesn’t let go till the very end. I found the story fresh and exciting the concept is captivating and I enjoyed every minute of the book. I really enjoyed the authors writing style it was fun, well written and flow smoothly it was easy to get lost. The characters are well written I found it easy to connect with Jess and David they quickly stole a spot in my heart. This is my first book by the author but I’m a huge fan of her story telling it’s a beautifully written book and I can’t wait to read the next one. I haven’t read a lot of alien books but this is my new favorite. A must for any Sci fi romance fans. On a side not the base where this all takes place happens to be a base we could end up at on the off chance. I wonder if I will find David and Jess hanging around. Just to recap I loved Fire in the Woods.
