I first ordered 25 feet (12-13bucks) and was able to replace the zipper pulls on my Maxpedition bag and waist pouch, and make a large fishtail style bracelet. I had a couple feet (7-8) left over, and I cut off a couple inches to light on fire (the expensive selling point). It lights up into a nylon candle. You could also pull out the red fire string and light it on fire. Unfortunately for the bracelet, my dog likes to chew on everything and my bracelet fell off in the night. The next morning Junior had chewed on buckle half off the bracelet, effective cutting the cordage in half. Determined to have a bracelet of Firecord, I ordered 50 feet. By the way- this stuff ships quickly. I got both packages within 2-3 days of ordering.
With the new 50 foot strand, I made one standard cobra weave bracelet and hid the rest in my tackle box. With the cord that was cut in half, I used it to replace my zipper pulls with cobra-weave pulls.
Pro tip- when going to melt the ends to seal the deal, I find that trying to snip out the fire strand from the end helps, otherwise I get a burnt end which doesn't look as great.
Tl;dr- it's expensive, but great. It ships quickly, the cord feels like cord (it's not flimsy like commercial cord). If you're on the fence, I'd recommend getting the 25 footer and replacing (or adding) the cord as zipper pulls to your pack and make a bracelet or two.
I only mention the Doan striker by name because, like this firecord, it actually works! Done makes true mil-spec. (amazon part #B0079SEGO2)
This is Commercial Grade Mil-Spec, not Military Grade Mil-Spec, and is thus not necessarily a true 550 paracord. I don't like naming other products in my reviews, but search around a bit. There are other products out there with a fire-cord inside (and some even more than just firecord as an extra) that are Military Grade and half the price, with more color options.
The fire-cord in this cordage IS, however, more effective of a firestarter than it's competition. The fire burns more effectively.
