Selecting a proper firearm lube just isn't as simple as buying motor oil. With vehicles you at least have a basic viscosity guideline on the oil cap (like 0W-20) the manufacturer specified as appropriate. Unfortunately with firearms there aren't any uniform lubrication guidelines, and with a huge number of products on the market, making the right choice can be an extremely confusing proposition.
Firearms are used in so many different applications - hunting, personal defense, law enforcement, competition, and just general plinking to name a few. Every shooter doesn't have the same needs. If you are just shooting something like a 10/22 for fun, plain white mineral oil may be acceptable. Of course mineral oil won't be an ideal lubricant with maximum performance, but on a low cost plinker eating a box or two of rimfire annually everything would likely be fine. However, in other applications an appropriate firearm lubricant is critical (if you depend on a firearm to get you home safely at night or are a high volume competitive shooter).
Everyone should think about their own specific factors like typical usage (for example - even with the 10/22 plinker - are you running the rifle hot with 300-400 rapid fire shots on a weekly session? If so, you could certainly use a great lube), firearm configuration, and the possibility for exposure to adverse environmental conditions. All things considered in my personal situation, I feel the 100ml bottle of Extreme Force in my range bag will last many years and be a wise investment. In my experience slightly thicker lubes like this product offer many advantages over thinner lubes (not migrating as much, preventing wear better, and hanging tough under what most would consider more extreme and harsh conditions). In my opinion these guys got the viscosity of this lube correct.
Should have come with instructions for removing the plastic tip and replacing it with the included needle oil tip. I didn't realize that part came off and cut the top of the tube off which still the needle tip wouldn't screw on until I noticed it just pops off. Duh!!!
This is my gun lube, period.
