I think any major, unsolved story in this author's hands--the unsolved, mysterious death of UN secretary-General Dag Hammarskjold, for example, would be well worth buying and reading. The man is clearly well-read and has likely spent years in the back-issues section of newspaper files. This is a great read, not a hard slog at all. Very entertaining, excellent characters, perfect atmospheric descriptions and plausible suggestions. I loved it.
I’ve read several of Mr. Hynd’s other books as well: “Truman’s Spy”, “Flowers for Berlin”, and “The Enemy Within” and “Firebird” is his best yet.
However, certainly a gripping story, just another piece of literature that most non Americans find very disturbing... confirming how politics and power really are conducted in the US. And seems frighteningly relevant given recent political circumstances.
If we can assume one historic generalisation, counties with a history of civil war never seem to really recover, do they?
