From Booklist

The excitement of a love-at-first-sight whirlwind marriage quickly turns into a harrowing adventure when Mallory Hale leaves her comfortable Washington, D.C., life after Daniel accepts a new job. He is certain that their life in Texas will be perfect, both for the newlyweds and his son, Nick, but Texas is nothing like Mallory hoped for. Versatile and prolific, Wingate weaves a story of deception, secrecy, and scandal as Mallory attempts to settle into being a wife and mother in the tiny town of Moses Lake. Fitting in proves difficult, as their neighbors are wary of Daniel’s boss, and no one is willing to admit why. Just when they finally begin to get comfortable, Mallory uncovers truths tied back to her former days in the swirl of Washington politics. Concern for her family competes with Mallory’s desire to get to the bottom of the mess surrounding them. Wingate’s many fans and fans of women’s fiction will find this novel about one woman’s struggle to discover who she is meant to be deeply satisfying. --Carolyn Richard

From the Back Cover

"Lisa Wingate is a glorious storyteller!"
--New York Times bestselling author Adriana Trigiani

Mallory Hale's life quickly veers off course when she falls hopelessly in love. After a whirlwind romance, Mallory finds herself leaving the bustle and action of Capitol Hill for the remote town of Moses Lake, Texas--with husband, stepson, and a U-Haul in tow.

A sweet, mishap-filled journey into marriage, motherhood, and ranch living ensues, and Mallory is filled with both the wonderment of love and the insecurities of change. But what she can't shake is the unease she feels around her husband's new boss, Jack West. Jack's presence--and his mysterious past--set her on edge, and when hints of a scandal emerge, Mallory finds herself seeking answers . . . and comes to realize that the middle-of-nowhere home she wasn't sure she wanted is the very place she'll risk everything to save.

I highly recommend Lisa Wingate's new and exciting book, Firefly Island.

There are times when life is a cursor on a blank page, blinking in a rhythm a bit like an electronic heartbeat, tapping out a question in three little words. What- Comes- Next?
Time and space and life wait for an answer. A blank page is an ocean of possibilities.

So begins Lisa Wingate's exciting new book, Firefly Island. Daniel, Mallory and Nick leave for an unforgettable journey from the DC area to beautiful Moses Lake, Texas. Daniel leaves his job as a USDA biochemist to work for a mysterious and wealthy Texan named Jack West. Jack has secrets. He has a ranch with thousands of acres where he needs Daniel's expertise to help develop new and better crops under extreme conditions. The young boy, Nick, and Jack's dog Pecos become inseparable friends.

The Frontier Woman and Al keep the reader looking forward to their next venture.

As in all Lisa Wingate's books, Firefly Island has many lessons about life. "The journey between what you once were and who you are now becoming is where the dance of life really takes place", by Barbara DeAngelis, is one example.

Firefly Island is an outstanding and exciting book. I have read it twice and I highly recommend Firefly Island!

FIREFLY ISLAND..I L-O-V-E THIS BOOK!!!!!!! It starts off witty and wonderful... Mallory, thirty-something world traveler, daughter of a wealthy family, and now working as a legislative assistant for a senior congressman finds herself on the floor of the nation's capitol where the Clean Energy Bill she was carrying is flying in all directions... around the Rotunda. Never did she imagine as she was grasping for the scattered papers that Mr. Wonderful would walk into her life. The stuff of fairytales, fireworks, hearts, music...she heard it all as she looked into the eyes of Daniel Webster Everson. Later, she got two for the price of one when she looked into the face of his three-year-old son, Nick. How blessed to be loved by two wonderful men!!!!
As quick as a snap, she is married, with a U-Haul behind their vehicle and headed to, of all places in the world, Texas. Middle of nowhere, Texas. Upon awakening in her new home she finds that she has gone from riches to rags. The ancient ranch home is filled with life...rodents, insects and scorpions and one large dog. Mallory takes on the daily battle for her men to have a varmint free home, and is overwhelmed with the tasks of nest-building and step-mothering. And, to top it off, her new husband leaves far too early and comes home far too late every day.
A strange place this Moses Lake, where people aren't who they seem to be and where ragged little children are suddenly grabbing her new son, Nick. She watches and learns from people she would never have touched before and finds friends who can be counted on when she runs headlong into a mystery that puts them in danger. What happened to the ranch owner's wife and son who disappeared years ago?

This is a release from Wingate you won't want to miss!

Merely pages into Firefly Island I discovered my likeness to Miss Wingate's writing style. It has made me wonder why I haven't read anything by her before and how that will have to change. This story is what I would describe as a contemporary romance with a touch of humor and mystery woven in.

Mallory's head is a fun place to be in. She has such a fun personality and outlook on life that made it hard to set the book down. Though she's very practical in a lot of ways she still takes many a leap of faith. While slowly adjusting into her new role as a stay-at-home mom, she does ponder some deep questions about God. It just saddened me that He wasn't as involved in the story as He could have been.

Miss Wingate has done an excellent job with Firefly Island. She accomplished writing a great lead character that we can get to know and relate to. And she also brings Moses Lake to life before our eyes. I really felt that small-town closeness. :-) If you like contemporary romance novels with some mystery, this is for you!

I received this book from Bethany House in return for an honest review of my opinions, thanks!

Firefly Island kept me up past midnight, way past - I couldn't put it down! As I've come to expect from Lisa Wingate, Firefly Island is full of not only expert writing, riveting plot, and real characters, but also sharp wit and wisdom. It joins my list of favorite Lisa Wingate books along with Never Say Never, and Dandelion Summer, firmly attaching Lisa Wingate on my list of favorite authors. Sometimes I skim read, but not in Firefly Island - I had to read every word and savor the delight of each sentence. Keep writing, Lisa, and to the rest of you, read Firefly Island!

I typically read six or seven books at a time. Once in a while, however, a book kidnaps me. I may remain somewhere around my house, but dishes pile high, kids enjoy way more screen time than normally acceptable and the husband is in charge of all meals (Read: take-out). This book is a kidnapper. I have not lost myself to this extent in a book in a very long time.

"Firefly Island" appears to be the third book in the Moses Lake series, but I found it to be a great stand-alone novel. Don't feel like you have to start with Book 1, though I now look forward to grabbing the other books in this series.

This author clearly loves language. Her descriptions are fantastic, her dialog realistic, her characters three-dimensional. I loved the book and could hardly put it down.

A faith element (Christian perspective) is clearly present, but I didn't find it overwhelming or oppressive. It didn't really show until the second half of the book anyway. Also, romance was present, but not over the top. I'm not one to enjoy sappy, predictable love stories. This definitely was not one of those. Yes, there was romance, but it played a supporting role to the more prevalent themes of connection, belonging, cultural contrasts and political intrigue.

My only complaint with this book lies in the simplistic depiction of blogging. As a blogger, I found it more than a little irritating how easy it all came to the main character. She garnered 200 followers after writing a single post? Within a month she received national attention? That just isn't believable, especially considering the character's lack of writing/publishing experience and tech/web knowledge. This, however, was the only aspect of the book that slowed me down, and even so just a touch.
