Digitally re-mastered edition of this 1990 album from the veteran Folk/Pop artist. Fires of Eden marked Judy Collins' debut on Columbia Records, and she seemed to rise to the occasion with her best overall body of new material in more than a decade. The opening cut, "The Blizzard," a seven-minute epic that rates alongside any of Collins' most beautiful work from her classic years on Elektra. Her version of "The Air That I Breathe" is featured here along with "From a Distance. The production and instrumentation are the fullest heard on one of Collins' records since her transition from Folk music to art song on the Wildflowers album, which makes the best of the melodies here come alive in rich and robust fashion. Judy is really at the top of her game here. "The Blizzard" is a wonderful song, and while I generally do not like 7 minutes songs-there are exceptions, and this is certainly one.
"Test Of Time" is a song I have enjoyed for a long time now. "Home Before Dark" is equally a very compelling offering. I do like remakes and here Judy shines on "The Air That I Breathe" her voice takes the song to a whole new place.
I purchased "Fires Of Eden" upon it release, and somewhere along the road of life-it was lost, but never forgotten. I am so pleased to have the recording back in my collection once again.
I have many Judy Collins recordings in my collection of music, and by far enjoy almost all of them.
