I like how this is a smaller space-saving design. While you do trade off on how much chemical you have in the unit, you gain the ability to store it in very convenient locations. For kitchen usage, I feel that makes sense. The top design is excellent as it gives you more mounting options, it protects the hardware from getting gunked up (which can happen in a kitchen), and it has a simple self-test design in which you can periodically check to ensure pressure is adequate.
The other reason I went for this specific First Alert for the kitchen was due to the dry chemical used (and the subsequent BC-rating that comes with it.) A kitchen fire can often mean a grease fire. We all know what happens when water gets thrown on grease (and the very serious injuries that can result from the splatter.) I have read that the dry chemical mixtures in this unit (and other BC units) are an ideal material to use with home grease fires to minimize this issue. These dry chemicals are also effective with electrical fires. So for the kitchen, grease and electrical fires seem to be the most probable scenarios, and this First Alert is designed to address them. So overall, I felt that was the best match for the unit I wanted to mount in the kitchen.
So if you are looking for a kitchen fire extinguisher (which I think is a good idea to have in any and every kitchen), this is a great choice. The purchase price isn't all that expensive, the unit lasts for about five years, and this is one of those devices that has the potential to save massive amounts of money and prevent unnecessary human suffering.
