As for Tyler, the leading man, at first he was getting the squinty-eye from me. But it wasn't long before he'd won me over too. He for sure wasn't perfect, but underneath the fame was a really good guy. There was great chemistry between him and Lacey, and I'd love to hear a song from him on the radio. =)
Definitely a fun book that you don't want to miss!!!
Highlights: Lacey--for a first person narrative, you have to love the MC. Lacey is so likable, I'm pretty sure we could be BFFs (even though I'm old enough to be her mom). And her love interest is incredibly swoon-worthy. One thing I love about this book is that Summer doesn't waste time trying to explain why a rock star would fall for an ordinary girl. She just lets it happen. And it WORKS. Another thing I love is that Lacey's parents are real people. In a lot of YA, it seems that the parents are ridiculous or stupid or antagonistic. This is not the case here. They're real people with real reactions and real problems of their own, and they love and support her. SO refreshing.
My very favourite contemporary YA author is Kasie West, and this book is now right up with hers. Summer's debut completely knocked it out of the park. If you're a fan of West, or of contemporary YA romance, or of NYC (which is its own character!), or of makeup or of YouTube--or just good books!--you must read this.
All of the makeup details in here are amazing. Even as a person who has no clue how to do her own makeup, I could still relate to Lacey and feel her passion for her art. I especially loved the late night show details that you put in there (from your own experience it sounds like!). Those were a riot.
Overall I loved Lacey and Tyler, their story and all of the adorable moments they shared through the journey that was this book. Thank you so much for writing this!
If you haven't read this book, you absolutely MUST! It is now one of my fave YA contemporary books EVER. I really hope the author comes out with another book soon, because I can't wait to read more of her writing! <3
