"First Comes The Night" is a logical progression to his "Mr. Lucky" album. It expands further in musical complexity, combining influences to create a unique sound, but still with a familiar Chris Isaak touch. There is depth and variety in the songs, as well as a feeling of maturity that comes from his years of experience with songwriting and performing.
This album is not for superficial listening nor do the 30-second preview clips do the songs justice. My initial favorite is "Please Don't Call", mostly because of all the intriguing subtleties in both the music and the lyrics, but "Down In Flames," with its danceable music and tongue-in-cheek, unrepentant sinner lyrics, is a close second.
I bought the Deluxe Edition, I never see the point in anyone buying just the standard album
You get 5 extra songs for a just a few dollars more and they're all Good songs.
People liken him to Elvis,Orbison,Jerry Lee,Johnny Cash etc. but he's NOT a tribute artist
When you buy a Chris Isaak album you get the Sound of Chris Isaak.
The album has Ballads, Rockers and Fun songs and some sing a long too, covering a variety of genres.
Great for parties, if you're of a certain age
A bit like his Live Act really.
If you haven't seen him perform live, make the effort and you won't be disappointed.
OK I'm a fan, so may be giving a biased revue but, just to show I am trying to be neutral,
I didn't think much of Track8 : Dry Your Eyes....in fact I hate it !
Of course you REALLY need to see/hear Chis & the boys live whenever they're within driving distance, but any Chris Isaak CD is a good consolation prize if you can't do that right now.
The about three-four years ago we saw the band up in Buffalo. As we were leaving, I heard one security uniform complaining to another. "This was SUPPOSED to be a 90 minute concert! It's been TWO HOURS AND TWENTY MINUTES! I have a baby-sitter expecting me back. . ."
So: if you have the CD, YOU don't have to worry about not getting home on time. Right?
Of course this Deluxe Edition has several bonus tracks, so Chis & Silvertone are running overtime here, too. :)

Really, when you have everything the world tells to be happy and you're still miserable, who do you turn to? For me, it's faith. But this isn't a sermon, Chris's new album....this one is great again. An older Chris has found siren songs to be mere siren songs, and he punches through the veneer of superficial beauty with "Insects", then "Please don't Call", "Reverie", that's some good tunesmithing and LYRICS!

Denke da insbesondere an Willy Deville.
Dazu 5 Bonus Tracks. Was will man mehr ?
