Format: Audio CD
I arrived at this CD by chance, a person who has collected heavily in the jazz and classical world and one who has consistently been disappointed in rock music. Specifically, rock has never adopted the range of rhythmic variation, harmony, counterpoint, or dynamic contrasts of other forms.

I found this album the exception and one I have returned to repeatedly for pure musical pleasure. Briefly, Sylvian sets up an impressionistic electronic world while Fripp cuts his way through with well thought out guitar licks. The rhythm section is consistently original, using synchopation and time signatures atypical for rock music. They set up a pulsing, trance inducing movement one can just 'go' with for hours at a time.

My only criticism is that the midrange and upper bass frequencies seem lean, giving the production a thin 'chalk like' quality. I'd love to hear a remix with audiophile values in mind. But don't let that stop you. The musical performance triumphs, particularly the last 5 songs which, really, create their own world.

just buy this. If you are even slightly a fan of either, get this. Its just sooooo good. Mr. Sylvain and Mr. deliver a delicious cd of smooth excess.

This combo is great for so many reasons. This seems to be a continuation of the ideas explored first on gone 2 earth and then rain tree crow. all in all a wonderful notion by mr. batt. this album seems to answer the questions of where japan started from initially. what would seem to be a backround ingrained in punk/glam rock ala bowie roxy and ny dolls out comes the proggy past which i feel is a conceptual twin to glam/punk and or it's demented cousin.
