I love history and so got the book about the first ladies of the White House. I found the book enjoyable and informative. I often read several books at one time such as a paperback and one or two books on my Kindle. It was a book that I could lay down and read at various intervals. I wish it had had some charts at the end with summaries of such things as the first ladies name, causes, years they were in the White House, education etc.

What a disappointment. This book should have been titled "Eleanor and others" because it focused mostly about Eleanor Roosevelt. Don't waste your money on this book.

This First Ladies book is a salute to all the hostesses/wives in the White House. I started reading from today and will work my way back to Martha Washington. What a journey these women have taken, and what a help they have been to their husbands.

I really like to read about people I have heard about and read about in the news. This book was good because you seldom know much about the wives of our presidents. They really are a large part of the whole picture when you want to know about the former presidents and this book gives you a pretty fair idea what was going on in the background of these peoples lives.

I have been enjoying this book. We always hear so much about the Presidents and nothing about their First Ladies. If you like history, you will enjoy this book.

Although the author gets a little wordy at times, this intriguing insight and comparison of our First Ladies is fascinating.

I did enjoy the book - she gave interesting background information about these women, certainly some of them whose stories that hadn't been so familiar. I don't know about those prior to Lou Hoover, but the ones after her seemed to be what I had expected, from living during the time of their occupancy of the White House. I thought it brought out both the strengths and weaknesses of these women, and the changes they made during their tenure there, and worth the read.
