I did not know this was the author's first book until the very end of the book. The one piece of advice to the author: do not offer candy to readers who might negatively review your book....even with tongue in cheek, it's not a good move. Now, onto the review.

I bought this book with dubious expectations. The description sounded interesting enough for a small investment to my kindle account. I have been hard pressed to find a non formulaic book lately that maintains my interest.

This book was a great and delightful surprise. It was something a bit new, a novel that made you think and kept you reading page after page. I loved the concept.

For a first time effort, I would give it a big American thumbs up.

I don't want to give away much about the plot because it is quite different. My hats off to an author with many careers and many handicaps along the way. I flew through this book in two days and that was a wonderful escape from all the real life crap that's going on around the world.

Thank you to a new author who gave us something a bit different to think about.

S. OBrien, I'll, USA

I really wasn't expecting much, since I had never read this author. Actually, this was his first published book!

Within the first few pages, I was pretty much spellbound! The storyline is great! I had an immediate connection with the main character (who is Psychic) and could not put the book down! It's an "easy read" but does not lack substance! It will keep you on your toes and won't disappoint.
I guess you can tell by all of my !!!!!!s that I LOVED it!!

The protagonist is a man with godlike psychic powers. He can affect submarines thousands of miles away, but he cannot affect a gag in his mouth. He can telepathically communicate with members of an audience he has never seen before, but he cannot communicate with his loyal bodyguard. He can predict stock market numbers 5 weeks in advance, but he cannot warn his bodyguard that the bad guy is going to come thru the back door in 5 minutes. He can telekinetically bend a metal rod in front of James Randi, but he cannot do anything with the distributor or carburetor in the bad guy's vehicle, or with the bad guy's heart valves, or brain cells during his being kidnapped.
The general quality of the writing was entirely acceptable, but unless you are like the Red Queen, and you can believe several impossible things before breakfast, you will find the plot hard to take.

First and Only is a well written book with a great story line. It is wonderfully mixed with suspense and action; definitely keeping the reader on her/his toes! I know for me personally, I could not put the book down. I have recommended it to as many friends as I know, and I will continue to do so. This novel is a great book if you like to read suspense, and enjoy a book that you cannot predict.

I enjoyed reading this book very much. It was exciting and a real page turner. Liked it so much, I woke in the middle of the night to read the last few chapters - couldn't sleep until I knew what happened to Psimon. He is the "first and only" physic who feels the pain of the victims who are being tortured and killed by this villian who he acidentally met as a boy waiting for his friend, a priest, to finish hearing confessions.

I'm not going to go on and tell you more - just read it and enjoy the book.

A fantastic Brother-Friend story! I couldn't put it down and I do hope they make it into a movie! Would love to see this friendship acted out on the Big Screen! Flannery is, I believe, Scottish (at least he lives in Scotland), so not quite sure how sentence structure works all that well there, so a bit daunted by the 'said Steve.' and 'said Psimon.' A bit overdone in that area, but then that could just be a matter of taste. However, that is my ONLY real problem, and that is something I alone have. The plot, the narrative, is exceptional and of course the friendship between Steve and Psimon is beautifully portrayed. That brotherly bond is formed quickly when Steve realizes that Psimon is quite possibly spot-on in his prediction that a killer will either kill Psimon in five days... or Steve will. Some have reviewed the psychic powers as not being that fantastic or else why would Psimon not figure out the truth? Answer is simple, and is clearly offered in the story near the end... fear. Fear clouds the mind in all people, real psychic power or not. When that wall goes up, it takes an awful lot to pull it down, and sometimes it takes facing death. How will it end? I'm not telling, only that getting to the end is a ride. Hurt/comfort in all the right places, not overdone, just brilliantly placed, and... NECESSARY! Thank you, Mr. Flannery, and I hope this won't be your last story about male friends! It was sorely needed by this buddy-story lover! I give it 5 stars easily!

Even though it has religious overtones it is not at all religious. The chapters are short but continue the story beautifully. I loved the characters...the good were really good and the bad absolutely evil. This story might make you think twice as to what you believe. Completely entertaining. A good read.
