Home pregnancy test kit. The FIRST RESPONSE Early Result Pregnancy Test is designed to detect hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) as early as 6 days before your missed period (5 days before day of the expected period). You can use the test at any time of day. You do not have to use first morning urine. In general, your first-morning urine contains the highest level of pregnancy hormone.
• After reading instructions and when you are ready to perform the test, remove the test stick from the foil wrapper and take off the Overcap. • Holding the test stick by the Thumb Grip with the Absorbent Tip pointing downward and the Result Window facing away from your body, place the Absorbent Tip in your urine stream for 5 seconds only. • While still holding the stick with the Absorbent Tip facing downward, replace the Overcap and lay the stick on a flat non-absorbent surface with the Result Window facing up. • Wait 3 minutes until reading result.

I getting BLARING positives on other tests (3 different brands) and barely there squinter lines with these, one time even completely negative, with the same urine sample as the others. In fact, the day this test gave me negatives, I had blood drawn and it was very positive too. I keep buying them because I had great luck with them years ago but something has to have changed.
The pic I included was a test I took after having my blood drawn and my level was 50.
I'm already a mom and have been pregnant before, and suspecting that I indeed was again, I decided to try a different test, E.P.T, on the third day of my missed period (immediately after I got the negative from the First Response). I got a VERY faint plus sign using the E.P.T., but a plus sign nonetheless (POSITIVE). To confirm, I tested the next morning with two other brands (ClearBlue and Generic), and also got positive results (this time much clearer and more obvious). For kicks, I tested with another First Response at the same time as I tested with the ClearBlue and Generic, and was appalled to see that it was still negative and obviously incorrect at this point.
I am fairly well educated on the subject of pregnancy and pregnancy testing, and I know all about implantation and the reasons why a pregnancy test can be negative for a few days after a missed period before it turns positive. I understand that first of the morning urine has the highest levels of HCG, and always made sure to test first thing in the morning. What I will never understand is why a test that is supposed to be so "ultra sensitive" didn't pick up on my pregnancy when literally every other test did. I finally got the FAINTEST positive on the First Response when I used the last test I had this morning, 5 days past my expected period. Bizarre.
I'm just glad that there are other brands out there that could easily confirm my suspicions, despite spending a small fortune on pregnancy tests. :-)
I'm not going to buy these anymore. They had cornered the market on pregnancy tests with a formerly great product. All the TTC groups swore by FRER. The talk is now about migrating over to Clear Blue. I wish they'd hurry up and bring back the flat sticks before that happens. They had a useful product with a cult following. Those folks weren't looking for a curly toy to play with.
