Seaside Surprises: Since this was my first book by Ms. Claflin, I was surprised. The author did great job with her writing, characters, and plot, which immerses the reader into the story. It's refreshing to read a decent book without explicit sex and profanity and stupidity. I'll be reading more of Ms. Claflin's book. She ranks with Maeve Binchy.
Bayside Promises - A heavy but with humor story. A well-written, intense romance with interesting, believable characters. The heaviness of the father's destructive behavior towards his family damages his daughters, but they still have a sense of humor, although love is difficult. I didn't like the father, because of his destruction, but not everything is sunshine and roses. This book is kinda like watching Die Hard when it first hit the screen, it involved your emotions too hard when the causes were exposed to the girls' thought processes. It is a good story and worth reading.
Sweet Dreams - Another fun romance with some of the gang from Bayside. A well written, funny, intriguing romance that grabs you from the first chapter and doesn't let go. It has touches of sadness, but the well developed plot and characters keeps the story moving till the end. The main female character, and her twin, and a visiting friend were first introduced in the Bayside series. Ms. Claflin always delivers a wonderful love story. I contacted the author to review her books.
Sweet Desire - Awesome, hope there's more. A well written, intriguing, suspense fantasy with tension and a well developed paranormal cast. The author created a story that pulls you in and doesn't let you go. If you enjoy Butcher and C. Harris, you will enjoy Sweet Desire.
Nate, an old acquaintance from high school days isn’t faring much better. Having stayed away from home for eight years, he finds his way ‘almost’ home but can’t quite convince himself to return. He finds himself camping out in his uncles old, run down, decrepit, boat not far from where he grew up. He’s broke, hungry, and jobless. Like Madisyn, he is determined to begin anew. For Nate, that means giving up a lucrative life of working for people involved in illegal activities.
After being away at college for five years, Madisyn barely gets her foot in the door when her dad informs her she is having dinner with his law partner’s son, Reese. Dad already has her walking down the aisle with Reese. What she wants is of no importance. What dad wants is all that counts. However, dad finds out his daughter is no pushover …. not anymore. To get away for awhile, she finds herself heading to the family ‘boat’ and see’s Nate doing some ‘fix up’ on his uncle’s boat.
As they both are running from their past, seeking forgiveness and redemption, they develop strong feelings for each other. But Madisyn’s dad and Reese see things differently. Both are determined that Nate needs to disappear and Madysin will walk down that isle with Reese... and Reese doesn’t mind playing dirty to get what he wants. Reese digs into Nate’s past eight years and discovers Nate’s questionable activity and the thugs who employed him. Will Reese blackmail Madisyn into leaving Nate behind, will he find a way to turn Nate into the law, making him serve a lot of time, will he try to put Nate out of commission himself? Does her dad realize his daughter is more like him than meets the eye and eventually accept her running her own life rather than risking losing her? And where is Madisyn’s mother in all this? Is she a social climbing wife who, like Madisyn’s dad, only cares for high society’s perception … or did her husband turn her into a callous mouthpiece for him? Is mom able to save her daughter? Just who are the good guys and who are the bad guys in this lighthearted, sweet romance?
As the plot unfolds all these questions and more are brought to light in Loves First Kiss …. but the big questions is, who gets that kiss, Nate or Reese?
Nate Roberts is ashamed. He left town to find a job & make something of himself. Instead, he's been transporting packages for guys that he is sure are into illegal activities. He tries to justify it to himself by saying he has no clue what's in the packages but he knows they wouldn't be paying him the money they are if they were legit. A chance encounter with a former classmate, Madisyn leads Nate to quit his "job". Can Madisyn forgive him for what he was doing? Can they have a relationship?
This is one of the first books in the First Street Church Kindle World. Both characters had things they felt ashamed or guilty for. They were struggling with leaving it all behind. Madisyn's father is one of the few characters that I have instinctively disliked. I would actually call him a verbal abuser for the way he was constantly putting Madisyn & her mother down & demeaning them. If you like clean old fashioned romances, you need to read this story & the others in this Kindle World!
