The First Templar is a game that I found by stumbling around on Steam one day. I saw that it was coming out the following week and decided to preorder it because it came with a bonus stage. It's also available for the 360 and it's bargain priced at $39.99. Does the little known game have enough to keep you interested or does it fall flat in it's attempt to capitalize on the templar craze in gaming brought about by Assassin's Creed. Read on to find out.

Before going into The First Templar, remind yourself one thing...it's a budget game. Don't expect amazing graphics or crazy realistic voice acting. If you want that, I can point you to countless other games. These budget games have become a sort of collector's niche over the years with people actively seeking them out. In all honesty, they are classic games. Back in the day all games had horrible voice acting and campy stories. It wasn't until recently when the big budget studios came forward and started dropping boat loads of money on development. Those games are amazing and fun and all that, but it's good to take a look at the seedy underbelly of budget games every once and a while. So, still interested in hearing about the game? Good.

The game begins with you as a Knight Templar fighting the good fight with your buddy. You are on a mission to find the holy grail (yep, that grail), and somewhere in the beginning of your battle you are tasked with rescuing a damsel in distress who is the daughter of a fellow Knight. The woman you rescue becomes your other half in the game and she takes up your crusade to find the grail.

The story isn't going to win any awards for it's originality but it does ok enough to get the point across.

I like the hack/slash type action rpg type games. This game falls in the same genre as God of War or Witcher loosely speaking. However this game is pretty good. It is a lower budget game but is very polished. The voice acting is good and gameplay is quite satisfying and good albeit repetitive and doesn't quite connect with you satisfyingly like say God of War does or Witcher does.

The graphics aren't very 2011 but more like 2003-2004 style. They're good and enough and get the job done. There are upgrade paths, 2 switchable chars, co-op, RPG elements, combos etc.
The historical setting of the medieval times is quite good. (Think the movie Kingdom of Heaven with Templars defending Jerusalem).

For a $16 game, you cannot complain really. This game is worth even at $30.

I am having fun playing this simple yet sweet game.

Great game for those wanting to play historical period,no trolls ,dragons or wizzards, just plain medevil combat, with tasks for two Templar knights to perform to find the Holly-Grail ,I will not give out the plot since it has twists that are unexpected, but well worth the time to play ,will gain insight in to the Templars' history ,The game is very easy to install since it is windows based and has great graphics, plus un-like other single shooter games you can switch between the two templars you want to play,Shame there is not a Templar II to countine the story line, but you will find many twists and turns in this game, unexpected, the story-line is well written, like an inter-active book Warning its hard to stop playing once you start the ,game time about 9 hours of play

I really like The First Templar game. Even though its not a Top 10 or very popular game it is what it is. I bought it knowing all that so I'm not rating it by that like some reviews. I had no problem with activating it nor installing it on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. My rig is MSI Z87 GD-65, i7-4770k, MSI Twin Frozr GTX760 4gb. Vengeance Pro 2400MHz ram with a EVGA SuperNova 750 watt PSU Gold Modular. I would recommend this game if you like this type of story line.

I should had written this review a year ago but alas I'm a busy man hence I extremely rare review online shoppings, like once every 3-4 years.

It has been in my conscience to review such a good game, even though it has flaws(what game doesn't?). Yes it's a console game ported to PC, yes the graphics aren't Crysis but good enough to be Witcher 1's. Gameplay is fun, just try it, learn it, and you will like the action oriented of it as not every game on PC has to be point and click. Camera feels like that of the Tomb Raider series, typical console. Has adventure like Tomb raider puzzles, old Indiana Johnes games.

In all fairness to the point of what this game has that NO ONE else has, a deep strong storyline with a foreshadowing. Deep religious atonement for historical church atrocities(it includes bits of well known diaries etc from the inquisition in the middle ages such as mere lowly merchants/businessmen etc grabbing Church power and deciding what God's will was[as you know, ANYONE good/evil can get themselves a seat in the church clergy]) and obvious day/night different between different people whom call themselves Christians such as evil inquisitors of old vs good of heart Knights who gave their lives to protect the weak in God's name. Well you better play the game as I don't want to spoil it for you. If you're a Christian, you will love this game as it is the most interesting serious (not that bullcrap of assassin creed) story I've seen, Templars! If you aren't a Christian, play it anyway and perhaps you'll understand a few things you never knew. The voice over is rather good, comparing it to Bethesda/Bioware/etc.

As someone who has played every mayor "blockbuster" PC game since 1991, this is one of those "underdog" types that is worthy of remembering.
