This story begins with a look at the diary of a young girl from the 1600's. No different from any other girl in her time period she lives her days completing chores and helping her family. Her description of events is where the entire story starts and how Mark and Tatiana find out about the crocodiles. It's definitely an interesting story and something that will surprise you greatly. Who would ever expect giant crocodiles lived within their town? (Unless you live in Florida of course.) But between Mark and Tatiana there is something happening. There is a romance blooming but there's something else as well.
Mark and Tatiana have family and friends outside of each other but they find themselves drawing closer to each other and further from those outside. You'll be wondering about the history of this small town and how these crocodiles came to be there the same way I was and you'll definitely be wondering what it means that they are still there. After all, it can't just be a coincidence that Adalina's people from the 1600's died off and the crocodiles are somehow still there. Or can it? You'll never know what happened unless you read this book just like I did.
I can kind of relate to Mark's character in this story. There seems to be a lot of things going on with his life and that he hasn't found the right person to be with yet. Once he met Tatiana and begin coping with her, I felt like he really opened up to the world. Tatiana has a unique personality too. She isn't shy about anything and she strives to fulfill her interests.
Eve Hathaway describes each scene with great detail right from the very first scene. I like both leads of the story and I felt that they are perfect together. The romance is there, but it's the mystery that kept me turning page after page. I am so anxious to find out what happens next. If you love adventure stories with a beautiful blend of romance and mystery then I highly recommend Song of Teeth.
The story follows Mark, a quiet, responsible teen dealing with the hardships of his parents' separation. The story opens with Mark and his best bud Aaron chilling at a cafe, watching people pass by. As they sip their coffees, they catch a glimpse of the eccentric "Lizard Girl," whose oddities apparently are hot gossip around school.
The reader later learns that this "Lizard Girl," is none other than the elusive and adventurous Tatiana. From here we are plunged into a story spotlighting Mark and Tatiana that takes you on a twisted journey through ancient legends to an underground city that is home to mystery creatures no one would ever believe existed.
This story features a lot of emotional & family issues, equal amounts of adventure and mystery, a sprinkle of humor and a dash of romance that come together beautifully and make for quite the exciting ride. I was thoroughly impressed with the writing, and overall I felt the only change it could benefit from was being careful with the overuse of adjectives.
This story is good for all ages. It is obviously targeted for YA readers, but as a late 20 something myself, I found it interesting and enjoyable. If you enjoy fantasy and adventure, this is a good one to add to your list.
Basically, this story is about Mark and Tatiana. They're both high school seniors, one dubbed as the responsible teen and the other dubbed as the “lizard girl”, simply because she has this eccentric personality that everyone thinks is odd, which is not; she's just different and her mindset is not shallow (no offense). Because they share a common interest, their lives began to intertwine and they're determined to discover the history of their town together; finding out what secret lies underground. I'm not pretty keen on going to unfamiliar places for the sake of adventure but if I have someone like Mark or Tatiana, I'll definitely go with the flow. They're just so cool and like you can really relate to them. By the way, there's a book preview by the end of the book so make sure to read it! It's very good and it makes you want to be Eve's best friend because of her astounding talent.
