My son has used this type of cup since he was about 18 months. The straw is thick and wide, and very simple to put the two parts together and insert into the lid. I never have to worry about juice spilling, or the straw breaking because of him playing with his cup. For some reason he always drinks by tilting the cup (ANY cup he uses) back, and this Learning Curve cup still doesn't leak! Perfect size for kids cup holders in the car, stroller, and carseat. The plastic of the cup is thick, but not truly 'insulated' as other cups are. The flip lid is oversized for chubby fingers; unlike the other brands, he has no problem opening and closing the cup. As for other reviewers saying that it's unfair that Learning Curve doesn't offer replacement straws, Playtex doesn't offer replacements either. Obviously, that's a bad practice for the industry.
If your toddler needs help learning to drink from a straw, or if you just want a travel or daycare cup with some extra protection from germs, definitely buy this one!
Edit, July 5 2011:
I just received an order of 2 of the Mickey Mouse straw cups, both completely sealed, but one had a pink/red colored straw either from a manufacturing defect or from bleeding of the red lid (I'm leaning towards a defect because either the bottom tube or the blue cup itself were stained). Still love these cups, but I'm disappointed in quality control. Waiting on an email response from The First Years. Great cups, but buyer beware!
- I wanted something flexible that would not hurt his gums and teeth. This silicone straw works great for that.
- If you tilt this cup it doesn't spill as long as the straw is properly sealed. It's very easy to not seal it all the way when putting it back together after washing.
- Washing this cup is very easy. The straw removes in seconds and can be hand washed or put in the dishwasher.
The only complaint I have is that when purchasing this on Amazon, you don't know which color you are getting. I purchased two of the Toy Story ones for my son, a blue one came the first time, so I was hoping that I could get a green one the second time when I selected the green cup during checkout. I received two blue ones. I was only able to find the green one that is pictured on diapers.com. We then purchased two of the Cars ones on Amazon, again getting two of the same design when I selected two different Cars designs during checkout. It's not really that big of a deal to have spare cups but I suppose if you really wanted a certain design it would be frustrating. We liked having the blue for milk and green for juice in the Toy Story ones, blue lid Cars for milk and red lid Cars for juice.

Son loves Toy Story, so the cup was a hit. However, he chewed the straw up after about three weeks. Sat down to order a replacement, and guess what. No replacement straws! Read morePublished on December 31, 2010 by TwoTnBugs
