This book is a page turner! Kate immediately pulls me into Sara’s story and had me cheering for the protagonist from page one. The turns and twists surprised me as the author educates us about the struggles our newest Americans must endure to survive in the United States.
This book provides an important and necessary perspective for young adult readers. This age group is often presented with a limited or dehumanized view of immigration. "Fish Camp" narrates the story of a young girl's journey from Mexico to America with a raw complexity of emotions without relying on shock value as the only source of entertainment. This book is age-appropriate in content, yet entertaining for all ages. I thoroughly enjoyed following Sara on her journey and look forward to reading the other books in the series.
Suspenseful and Gripping
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I quickly felt attached to Sara and her struggle to find her place in a completely new life situation. A book that made me want to keep picking it up until I got to the end. Many twists and turns that keep you for knowing the outcome until the very end. I don't enjoy reading a book where I can figure out the ending before I barely get started. Not so with Fish Camp! I'm anxious for Book 2!
Wonderful first novel by Kate Banco.
A great read ! Wonderful for young adults and older adults too !
