Classic Fisher Space Pens have been going into space since before the first Moon landing. The cartridges of conventional ball point pens are open to permit ink to be fed to the point. The secret behind the Fisher Space Pen lies in the unique design characteristics of the ink and the high precision manufacturing tolerances of the ball point and socket. The ink is fed to the ball point by gas pressure permitting the pen to write in any position. The cartridge is pressurized with nitrogen so that it doesn't rely on gravity to make it work. It is dependable in freezing cold and desert heat. It can also write underwater and upside down. The Zero Gravity Space Pen with black rubberized cushioned barrel and grip and American Flag imprinted on barrel has a very discreet triangular 3-sided design that gives the user writing comfort and control. People with large hands enjoy a wider writing instrument. A very strong tensile strength on the clip ensures the Zero Gravity will not fall out of a thin dress shirt pocket or even a thick nylon back pack. The zero gravity space pen is a single-hand operation with the plunger mechanism at the top of the pen Each pen comes in a gift box.

This pen is GREAT. It fits my hand perfectly, it has proper heft to let you know you have a pen in your hand. There are two features that are especially nice in this model. The rubberized finish which is both easy and comfortable to grip. Also the "triangularized" gripping area makes pen very easy to handle when writing. Of course the little American Flag is the reason that I purchased this model but that is just personal taste.
To standard type features -- The clicker mechanism seems positive and sturdy in the little time I have used it. The ink cartridge writes as advertised and at any angle. It writes on dirty or soiled paper and ones with mild grease spots without any problem.
Very happy with this purchase and is now my primary writing instrument.
*The metal clip doesn't break like so many plastic clips do. I can clip it to my shirt or sweat shirt with no worries about the clip breaking. I've had many pens over the years in which clips have broken-- especially those plastic clip gel pens.
*It writes on wet/damp paper. I work as a locomotive engineer and have to fill out calendar day forms in the cab of a locomotive. Occasionally the windows have been left open prior to a rain storm and the forms have gotten wet. The Fisher pen was still be able to write on the form. As a matter of fact, it can read on virtually anything, including glass.
*Recently I tried out another brand that had a heavy duty clip. I liked the pen but when I got undressed after work I discovered the pen had leaked onto my white t shirt under my sweat shirt. My Fisher pen has never did that.
*The pressurized ink means it writes right away whether that is upside down, side ways or on a regular surface. No dry runs or shaking the pen. I can even write on a small piece of paper in the palm of my hand with no problems. In other words, I didn't need a hard surface to write on with this pen.
I purchased my first Fisher pen for $25 so I am happy with the price I got here. Its a bargain.
I can't really think of any except that during the course of using the pen for a year the words and the American flag on the pen started rubbing off. I finally just scraped it all off and the pen still looked good.
I highly recommend this pen.
So definitely buy a Fisher pen. And, as far as Fisher pens go, this is the only one that is big and rubbery. If you like that in a pen, then this is the one to get. If you don't like big clunky pens, then stick with the more traditional products.
For me, I am on my third "Zero Gravity" pen. (What can I say? Pens belong to the universe...) The first one was the greatest pen I've ever owned. It was heavy, it had a nice smooth plunger to extend and retract the pen, and it seemed to be built like a tank. Alas, the last two Zero Gravity pens I've owned haven't been as tight -- it seems like the plungers have more play in them then the older one did, and the front end tends to unscrew themselves more easily.
That said, I still love the pen. It has that magical Fisher cartridge, and I can write for hours with this big rubberized beast.
I have used Fisher Space Pens in the past but they were always too narrow and didn't sit well in my fingers. They wrote great but were difficult to grip. This particular pen is a larger size and shape with a rubberized coating to it. It has a great feel and is definitely hefty. The clicker also works very well.
It costs more than many ink pens, but is worth the cost. This Fisher pen does not have an embossing option - it would be nice to be able to replace the current embossing with your name and contact info in case you misplace this (expensive) pen. I own three of these pens. Highly recommended.
