My mother in law bought a newer version of the Fisher Price infant to toddler rocker for her house when my daughter goes to visit and she hates it. (Both my daughter and Gma!) The newer versions are shallow, the cover keeps coming off the bottom of the chair, and the bars that the chair is made from aren't near as hefty or sturdy as this chair. I wish we would have thought ahead and bought two (or three!) since we have another little one on the way and can't find this one now for a decent price. Booo.
Pros: Deep so no fear of baby rolling out, easy to remove and clean, cover straps on top and bottom, nice toy bar, vibration for baby, rocks easily, low enough profile for toddler to get in and out by herself, sturdy enough that it won't break or tip over backwards
Cons: middle harness is not remove-able (though we leave it hanging down and doesn't bother her), the slots on the side for the toy bar to slide into are in a bad location without covers so that she occasionally hits her arm or head when she sits back. I made covers for them.
One of the best investments we made. Would recommend this chair hands down.
2 complaints: 1) The toys on the toy bar are made of HARD plastic and when my son bats at them with his little flailing arms I worry about him hurting himself; 2) The rim on the bottom edge is a metal bar covered with the vinyl/cloth of the seat but it has no padding so it is HARD. My son kicks like a madman and when his heels get to the bar I have to cover it or keep adjusting him. The seatbelt could theoretically keep one's heels above the bar, but at some point kids are not big enough to sit like a toddler and too long to be belted and have their heels above the bottom bar.
However, for the price and versatility, and for something the kids use a few weeks of the year, I say it does the job. And it's adorable.
