After pushing the various knobs and hearing the noises on the workbench, our grandson quickly became bored with this toy. I do have hopes, however, that he'll use it for role playing as he gets older. Until then, we re putting it away on a high shelf in the toy closet.
So what about other options? These have been hugely popular with our grand baby:
1. Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn Learning Kitchen: Even at 9 months, this was fascinating and at 16 months, our grandson is already pretending to cook in the oven and use the included pan to prepare the plastic carrot in the set. He can play with this toy for up to an hour, a small miracle. This is one of his favorite toys.
And actually it is 3 toys in one: a shape sorter, a play kitchen (complete with sink, sizzling burner, and oven), and fridge. I do have to keep track of the various pieces but they are easily stored in the oven or fridge. Sometimes we put a few pieces of those baby or toddler fruit puffs in the set's cooking pot to encourage role play.

~Tries to teach colors, shapes, numbers & the alphabet
~Songs & lights catch his attention
~Teaches how to push buttons, pull levers, turn handles & slide things
~The "opposites" (aka: the drill) doesn't really seem to teach much in my opinion
~It falls forward very easily (frustrating for little ones to set back up to play with)
~The purple handle has pinched/caught my sons fingers on numerous occasions. He starts wailing while trying to pull his finger out & is left with a sore red finger.
Despite the cons, he does like it & goes over to play with it a few times a day.
Unfortunately, I can't say that I would purchase this again given the choice.
As to the comments about stability, of course the toy falls over when children try to stand and lean on it, but what do you expect from a toy of this size? Fisher Price made the legs as stable as they likely could for a toy of this size. I'm really not sure what they could do to improve on it besides making the whole thing larger.
Lots of fun/great price. A toy my son can grow with.
