What the descipt doesn't tell you is that the illustrated pages on this are CARDSTOCK glued to the durable plastic "pages". Cardstock. That's not very baby friendly.
Vtech on the other hand has a nursery rhymes book (same concept, plastic musical light up pages) but their books illustrations were printed on high gloss stickers thus they are easy to wipe off and the pages don't run the risk of being torn, etc.
Great idea but done better by others.
The little songs are not annoying and the singing is pretty good.
As you turn the pages, it has a slight pause, then switches to sing the rhyme on the page it was turned to (a good transition). There are 6 pages with rhymes on them - (1) I went to the animal fair, (2) The ants go marching (3) Row, Row, Row Your Boat, (4) One, Two, Buckle Your Shoe, (5) Hickory Dickory Dock, and (6) Pat-a-Cake. The singing is pleasant and not annoying and you can adjust the volume to a lower setting.
A few other nice features of this book is that it can stand in front of the child for easy page turning but my daughter likes knocking it down when it is standing and prefers to turn the pages like a regular book laying on the floor. The book has to be open for it to stand, it was designed to be balanced that way, and will topple if closed. That isn't an issue for us but something to be aware of. There are also three interactive buttons on the "binding" middle piece of the book. One button is for A, B, C's and one is for 1, 2, 3's and one is for colors. My daughter really enjoys pushing those. It will interrupt the song and talk about A for animal, A for ant, B for boat, B for buckle and so on. Then 1 for 1 lion, 2 for 2 ants, and yellow lion, green ants for the numbers and colors. It also has some fun sound effects after it says the animal or thing. Also, if the book is closed and the child hits the nose on the face, it will say "hello!" which is fun. Good buy for what I paid, happy with the product.
First, I thought the pages would be easily turnable by the little guy but they are not. It takes an adult to turn them.
Second, the stand on the bottom is awkward and I wish it was removable. It is large and makes it almost impossible to hold it as a book. If it is standing up straight on the stand then unless the baby is laying flat on his stomach he cannot see the pages. If he holds it like a book the big stand is in the way. Also, it makes it awkward to put in a toybox or on a bookcase. So I really wish it was something that could be removed by an adult. I also feared that if he layed the book flat he would hurt himself on if he fell onto the stand. Not a smooth edge to fall on.
Third, the buttons for letters and numbers only include the letters A and B and the numbers 1 and 2. That came as a shock to me. Why so few?
For all of the above reasons I cannot imagine even reintroducing the toy to him when he gets older and can manipulate it better.
I want to say that I am a huge Fisher-Price fan and will remain one. This was the very first Fisher-Price toy that I was unhappy with. It certainly won't stop me from being a Fisher-Price fan or buying from them in the future. Everyone gets one mistake.
