Really annoying. My daughter would have liked it otherwise I think, because she tries to put the man on the boat, but it's lopsided and won't float now. And really, I don't know what might be growing in the water that's in the boat. Because the water in that boat was also the dirty water from a sticky/poopy toddler's bath. Probably a good thing that I can't open it, come to think of it.
It would have been a good toy if not for that. Nothing spectacular, but ok. It's hard to find toys that are appropriate for the 1-2 age range. They're not ready for the full on imagination toys yet, but a little past the point of cups/chew toys.
Anyway, I'm disappointed, obviously. I'll hold on to the boat for another week or so if Fisher Price wants to contact me. If they really want, I'll seal it in a zippered bag and mail it back so they can look into how it filled with water.
One note, our little captain is a blond boy, which was different than the captain in the pictures, but while this worked for us, beware you may get a different captain than pictured!
I read a lot of reviews about this boat and wasn't sure because some of the reviews complained of water getting stuck inside the boat. We have NOT had this problem. It has been airtight!
The cabin strainer is great! My son loves using it, hearing the sound change as it drains on different toys. It holds a lot of water, too! It takes about 10 seconds for a full cabin of water to empty, while not enough to rinse soap out of hair, it works to get the hair wet and has helped him get used to water being poured on his head.
I have only one caution, when storing the boat between baths, be careful not to let water sit inside the boat as mold will grow. I noticed if my son (or even husband) puts the boat away on the corner of the tub, he has a tendency to put the boat top, full of water, on top of the boat, leaving a nice pool of water to sit until the next bath!
However, we had it for about a year until it just got too moldy to play with and we had to throw it out. I keep my kids bath toys very clean and dry them out after each bath and it still got moldy. Maybe this would be a better toy for the pool or just to be used occasionally in the bath.
I don't like that the little person has a hole in the bottom and retains water without a way to get it out. My daughter cries and asks for the little person but I don't want to give it to her and have it start growing mold or spew already grown mold back into her bath, yuck. Also - I wish the top and bottom parts of the boat came apart so that she could play with it more...she tries to pull them apart and gets frustrated as the boat is 1 solid piece - the red strainer part comes off but the yellow/blue doesn't. I'm sure it has something to do with it floating but then maybe it should be all 1 color so it's not confusing for my daughter.
I have never had any issues with water getting into the body of the boat and it floats well.
