This toy is definitely fun and cute. My little three year played with it for hours the first day it arrived, and he loved the side door that opens. He loves the voice and the things the truck says. His only complaint is that the doors do not open for the cab of the truck, but other than that he loved it. He dropped it several times on the floor from the table and it did not break and it is large and rills well. The little car rolls out of the bed when the door opens, as well as other toy trucks he has, of which he absolutely loves and laughs at. overall this is a cute and durable toys, with great sayings and a moving face. I would not rate it high for educational, but it does well for eye hand coordination.

Toy arrived well packaged--no plastic used to encase truck, yet there was enough tape and tough cords holding the wheels of The Big Rig that it takes some effort (and a knife) to free the truck from the box. Truck doesn't seem to mind, it's full of "happy sayings" recorded in a little boy voice. Push the blue button on top of the truck to activate sounds and movement of features. When you do this, the headlights light up, the side mirrors move (like waggling ears), the eyes move around and other sounds play. Sometimes the big side door drops down to the floor releasing the little "wheelie" vehicles. The child can re-load up to six vehicles (only one comes with The Big Rig)and push the door back up. This activates a switch that causes it to talk and move again. You can also activate The Big Rig by pressing the blue front bumper of the truck. The truck rolls easily on it's six wheels. I wish the front wheels would swivel as you turn the vehicle. Also, I wonder if it will frustrate a child when the truck suddenly dumps the little vehicles at a time when the kid doesn't want them dumped. The child will have to deal with this because s/he has no control over that. In general I prefer non-battery toys, but this one seems like it will provide fun interaction anyway, and it does come with batteries already installed. There is a switch underneath the truck next to the battery cover that you can use to turn off the action features completely or control the volume (two settings for volume). It would be good to have extra batteries on hand, and especially, I recommend having extra "wheelies" on hand to use with The Big Rig or other similar vehicles. This thing isn't really complete unless the kid can fill it up with cars. I will probably buy one of the four packs for $12.99 or the twelve pack for $35.Read more ›

recieved today 22 sept. the youngest grandson at 13 months old was here. i broke it out and his eyes lit up. he went over to it and started playing with it. boys love big toys. i was going to keep it here at the house but he played all day with it and when it was time to go----well he didn't want to give it up. so g-pa let him take it home.. remember this boy is 13 months old and at this age they have a attention span of a nat. he played over 6 hrs straight no nap and had to put the truck on the table with him during supper) with this toy. he was playing big truck driver just like his g-pa.

To insure we had a child's perspective on how much fun this toy is and how well it can stand up to 3 1/2 and 1 1/2 year old boys we sent Zig and 5 accompanying Little People Wheelies to our Grandsons, currently living in Amman, Jordan.
When we first received Zig we were totally impressed with the packaging, very little plastic was used to secure Zig in the cut-a-way box and it was well secured with recyclable paper string. Because there was only one Little People Wheelie with Zig we purchased four additional Wheelies to be able to give Zig a thorough test. Transposing from our Daughters feedback from the boys:
"I would rate it 4 stars, and this is what I would say:
Both my 3.5 and 1.5 year old sons love playing with Zig. The truck is sturdy and has held up well to a month of fairly heavy use so far. I don't generally care for toys that make noise, but my husband and I definitely appreciated the variable volume level so we could control how loud the sound effects are (at least until my kids figure out how to change it!). The sound effects stopped working on ours after a week or so, but that's most likely because my older son managed to take Zig into the sandbox when we weren't looking, which tends to kill battery-operated toys pretty quickly. The release mechanism that sends the smaller cars "driving" out of Zig still works perfectly, though, and since that was their favorite part anyway no one has missed the sounds. This is a very popular toy when we have playdates at our house!"
Our response to our Grandsons and Daughter for the review:
Thank you Xxxxxxx and Xxxxxxxxx for testing Zig and cars so thoroughly and carefully and giving Grammie Tene' and me this feedback.

I like the noises the truck makes, and it's a nice large size so it holds Little People cars and trucks inside it. The one drawback is that it frustrated my 2 year old grandson at first. When you push the large blue button on top of the truck, it makes the truck talk or make noise, but it also drops the side rail of the back section, so all the little cars come racing out. There's no option of locking the back section closed. Well, my grandson likes to push buttons, and he didn't want the little cars to race off the back end every time he pushed that button. We had a temper tantrum incident over this. If I had know ahead of time, I might not have bought this particular truck, even though I like the Little People toys. We eventually used a shoestring to tie the truck back end closed for awhile until my grandson can understand the option of racing the cars out of it a little better.
This is additional information now that grandson is 4, and old enough to understand about the big, attractive button, he no longer is interested in the toy at all. It's heading for Goodwill. Frustrating to spend so much for a gift, to have it provoke temper tantrums, then to just be useless.
