My baby cried hard for about 18 hours a day in apparent misery. We went to the paediatrician, the lactation consultant, friends, everyone... nothing was physically wrong with her to explain the screaming and crying. I slept 2-3 hours per night, was extremely tired, and didn't know what to do other than vent at my poor husband. I love my baby unconditionally but I was really having a rough time dealing with her mild reflux and extreme mysterious colic. One night, at around 3am, I snapped. The bouncer didn't work, the bassinet didn't work, snuggling didn't work, walking didn't work, shushing/swaddling/swaying/sucking didn't work, singing didn't work, tummy time didn't work, skin-to-skin didn't work, feeding only worked during the feeding, bathing didn't work, baby didn't have a fever, no hair tourniquets, no diaper rash, pooping well, nothing at all to explain it or fix it. I felt horrible for her (it must be hard to be a baby) and was so worn out I couldn't physically get out of bed any more. I was willing to do anything, pay anything, to make it stop. I cracked and bought the Mamaroo with 1-day shipping. I put her into it, and nothing changed. I tried for days - different swaying, different intensities. Nothing. No fix. Pacifier didn't help (she just spits it out ten times in a row), gripe water was unhelpful, cutting dairy out of my diet just made me unhappy and hungry, and I cut out caffeine with horrible results given the sleep deprivation.

I didn't want to buy the Fisher Price Rock N Play Sleeper because it didn't match the aesthetic - I'm trying to avoid looking like a day care threw up in my house. It's too pastel, too cutesy, and I just don't love the look. When your kid has bad colic, some things go out the window - and for me, aesthetics became trivial.

This product saved my sanity!! My baby was not sleeping at all when I brought him home. He would just lay there and stare at me. Then he got Acid Reflux and it got even worse. He would scream and cry when I laid him down. And then once he was on medication the crying was better but he would spit up all over as soon as I laid him down. The doctor said I had to keep him upright for at least 40 minutes after each feeding! Ain't nobody got time for that! I was already only getting 3 hours of sleep a night (and not in a row) as it was! I had to keep the baby in bed with me so I could help keep him propped up. We also tried several types of bassinets and different ways to keep him propped up. It was madness.

In desperation I bought this sleeper at Babies R Us when he was a little over 2 months old. That night my baby slept for 9 hours straight. No wakeups, no spit ups. I actually had to check him a couple of times to make sure he was still alive! The next morning my husband and I felt like a million dollars.
Pros:
Unlike a lot of other sleepers, this one is angled so the baby isn't flat on his back so it eases heartburn and helps keep the acid down.
My baby is obsessed with soft fleecy materials so the silky soft fabric on this bed is very soothing to him.
The straps help keep him from rolling over and suffocating himself.
Sometimes when i put the vibration on he instantly falls asleep (sometimes it seems to wake him up more though).
It folds up so you can take it anywhere. It's gone with us to hotels and grandmas house.

I use this bed along with my other secret weapons for baby sleep: The sound box from the slumber bear (better than sleep sheep. I hook the sound box the the bar near babys head).

My five week old would sleep just fine - if you were holding him. The minute you laid him down (crib, cradle, or bassinet), he would wake up and start screaming. When we mentioned this behavior during a consultation with an IBCLC, she mentioned that she was hearing a lot of good things about the Rock n' Play. We decided to order it and give it a shot. I first used it to hold a sleepy baby while I pumped, and he sacked out entirely. A few days later we discovered we could keep him occupied (rocking, but awake) in this and both have hands free to eat a meal. That night, we moved it into the bedroom in place of our bassinet, and got our first real sleep in several days. He's still too little to really sleep through the night, but he's comfortable enough that Mom and Dad can get to sleep long enough to actually feel rested. This made SUCH a difference!

Bought this for my 4 week old baby. He was previously using a co-sleeper and would spit up and wake up all night long. Moving him into this was awesome - stopped his all night spitting up and quickly started sleeping through the night. Also loved that it fit great in our travel trailer for our camping trips. It is so light and portable! I carry it into the bathroom and kitchen for awake time during the day as a safe place for baby to observe and stay out of his toddler sister's way. Baby is over three months old and we still love it!

I had huge reservations about this due to reviews about it flat head causing flat head and other reviews about how difficult the transition to a flat crib could be. However, we had an infant that spit up a lot and loved to be held and I got to my breaking point after one too many early morning (night?) feeding wake up and clean ups. The first night we got a 4 hour stretch and I felt like a new one. However, I was very concerned about flat head so I made sure my infant only night slept in it, never just hung out or napped. We used it for 6 weeks and got regular 4 and 5 hour stretches out of it with minimal to no spit up. One night I awoke to find my baby girl had scooted very far down and it took a long time for me to feel her breathing. I was terrified. She's always been a wiggly baby, even swaddled, and we didn't strap her in (she sleeps swaddled) so it's more my fault then the product. However, we moved her to a flat surface as recommended by the AAP and our pediatrician. Yes, she still spits up (she idoes not have reflux and can lay flat without screaming so I have no advice for those dealing with that) but I feel better about her breathing. Would I buy again? Maybe. It was a huge help to get those four and five hour stretches early on and I could actually semi-function during the day. A new parent who is desperate to sleep, especially if they have to work the next day, probably feels similar sentiments. Now that we are 9 weeks put, she is consitstenly sleeping 7 hour stretches in the bassinet and will hopefully move to a crib soon without incident. My fears of flat head and crib transitions won't play out in this capacity anyway.Read more ›
