Winston is Sir Topham Hatt's hilarious track inspection vehicle, who may not be the "brightest bulb" in the pack, but he's smart enough not to let on about what a terrible driver Sir Topham Hatt is! Though he gets distracted easily, he's a well meaning and fun little vehicle, and the scenes in the movie with Winston had our grandson in stitches! He's red with gold nameplates and gold horns on his sides, with a little Sir Topham Hatt sitting inside. When we purchased him for $5.99 for our grandson's collection (back in 2013), we noticed that he wasn't QUITE as heavy as Sir Topham Hatt's little blue car or Mr. Percival's little red car had been (in 2010 & 2011, respectively), but still a decent little diecast. It did start us wondering about possible quality-slippage at Fisher-Price though. (And just so you're aware, Take-n-Play products are not compatible with wooden tracks.)

Here's an unwelcomed update... in 2014, Fisher-Price began replacing what had started out as such a HIGH QUALITY line of diecasts with just terribly cheap, plasticized models - and that cheapened version of Winston can be seen in a so-called "value pack" of 10, Thomas' Favorite Firends. After looking for yourself and comparing this one with that one, I'm sure you'll decide you'd better grab one of these older versions while you can! There's also a talking version of Winston they came out with in 2014, before they took him on such a downhill turn. Fisher-Price lists a $6 MSRP for this version as of March 2015... the new one will have the SAME price!

My 2 year old son loves Thomas the Tank Engine, and this one has Sir Topham Hatt, so he's thrilled.
Winston fits on the wooden railway track; however, he doesn't have any magnets, so he doesn't attach to any of the engines. This was disappointing to my son, but otherwise he loves it.

Hard to find Thomas the train toy. I was very happy to find Winston online because my 5 year old son loves the unique take-n-Play toys. He is autistic & always has to have a train in I his hands to keep him calm. He has so many trains that he was getting tired of looking at the same ones over & over. I began to order him the most unique toys I could find so he would have a huge variety of characters - not just the trains. This was a great addition to his set of different shaped Thomas the train friends.

Little Winston carting around Sir Topham Hatt along the rails of Sodor? Yes, please!!

My 3 year old loves Thomas and Friends and he seems to enjoy all of the characters equally (joy). This car that we have was made in 2012 in Thailand by Mattel and it appears to be die cast material. This toy fits perfectly with the Take n' Play tracks but if you have a little one who loves trains then you know that the floor, table, couch, walls, even your legs become "tracks". It's a small toy but it's made to go along with the Take n' Play line and those are all smaller than average because they are designed to be portable play sets.

We love this toy! Both Winston and Sir Topham Hatt are a great addition to our family. Someone has to keep all of the engines in order! :)

I love the Take-n-Play trains and cars, they are sturdy and go well with the Take-n-Play sets and roll smoothly on the tracks. This one does not have the front and back magnets that other trains have, so it can't be linked up with a train, but this is supposed to be the track inspection car, so it probably shouldn't be linked with the trains. My 3 year old loves having Sir Topham hat in one of his vehicles!

For my son's Thomas collection. I like the die-cast ones better than their wooden counterparts...they just seem less likely to chip and scratch. They can't pull very heavy loads (they're magnetized so they all connect) but he loves them. I'd recommend Amazon to purchase just the ones you need instead of searching out stores or buying lots on eBay.

My bad. The quality is good but is smaller than I thought. Always learning about the differences in Thomas sets. My grandson is happy to have Sir Topham, but I'd be happier if the size matched his set.

My son is named Winston James so naturally this car and the James train was a must have for his growing Thomas collection.

Very cute car. He loves it already and carries it around with him everywhere. I like that his name is stamped on the side. It's like getting it personally monogrammed without the cost!
