Format: Hardcover
James Holland's latest photographic book is one of my favorites. His use of the fisheye lens creates a breathtaking intimacy, and one can feel the interplay of subject and photographer, or in some cases, imagine the silence at the moment in time when Holland was taking these images.

Holland brings ordinary, real people, and dusty shops and street markets to the level of extraordinary, and brings larger than life events down to earth. In this age of photo-shopping, this book of insightful photographs reminds one that photography is the result of much planning and deliberation, though Holland makes this seem easy and spontaneous.

The images are truly breathtaking. One realizes that unusual and beautiful things are happening around us all the time. Inspiring and well-conceived, this book is an extraordinary journey, and one that I shall enjoy again and again.

"Fisheyes" reveals quirky and insightful lesser-known photos of former National Geographic photographer James Holland. Chronicalling his extensive travels around the world, the standouts depict a young Ted Kennedy campaigning for the Senate in the 70s, a fallen U.S. B-24 bomber jet in the Libyan desert (cover image) and the interior antique shop scenes. The fisheye lens lends a poetic distortion that causes one to return again and again to the images. A very good buy!

Having gone to school and calling Boston my home, seeing Boston in this captivating and unconventional way, makes me love the city even more. In addition, the imagery of Libya, especially the Mosque and Theater - Roman City of Leptis Magna are fascinating jewels in this must have book.

I really like the simple, yet differing uses for this unique lens. I liked the many great, old, yet, many examples.
