Best Pruners For the Money...Heck, BEST PRUNERS period.

I have put these pruners through their paces and maybe even went beyond, but they have held up. They tackle just about all shrubbery as well as trees on my property that require trimming/pruning. They are easy to handle and hand fatigue is reduced due to its design.

I'll be honest, I am a little concerned with the reviews saying that their pruners have broken, so I have purchased back-ups...just in case. These pruners are so fantastic, I'd be at a loss if I didn't have one! Please email or leave me a comment *ASAP* should Fiskars discontinue these or should the design change because I will need to go and purchase every remaining one so I will always have one of these wonderful, wonderful tools.

Broke the first time I used them. This particular model has a very poor design where one of the cutting blades has a detachable arm that will disengage when cutting through thick branches. Useless, and there is only a 1 month return policy, which unfortunately passed before I used them for the first time.

DIFFICULT TO BEAT THE QUALITY AT THIS PRICE - THIS IS AN EXCELLENT PRUNING SHEARS

I have a large number of pruning shears of my own that I have collected throughout the years and am fortunate to have access to many more - different brands and different models. I get to "test" a lot of these things. I also do a lot of pruning as we have an orchard, heavily planted and landscaped yard which includes thick woodland. I don't particularly like doing all this cutting, sawing and chopping but hey, it has to be done...or so my wife feels.

Anyway...

For the money these Fiskars 9124 Professional Bypass Pruning Shears are some of the best I own and in my case are quite handy. First is the fact that they are built so that they can be used by both the left and the right hand. Unfortunately I am old. Unfortunately there are some drawbacks to becoming ancient. One of those is that many people develop arthritis of the hands. I am one of those people. This is a real bummer to be quite frank. It is not a major problem yet, but it can be quite painful and most certainly has an impact on the strength of the hands. Repetitive motion is of course good for this condition but it should be done in moderation. I am not one of those individuals who enjoy pain...any pain. Now back to fortunately...I happen to be somewhat ambidextrous so it is really nothing for me to switch from one hand to the other. This design is ideal for someone like me. When one hand gets tired, weak and painful, I simply switch hands and keep going; giving the other hand a rest.

I like the fact that this particular tool has replacement blades available. I also like the fact that these items, like all to most Fiskar products have a lifetime warranty...one that from past experience with other products I know they honor...no questions asked.

This is a smooth operating pruner. There are a couple of things to note though. It does indeed work well on green limbs up to 1 inch in diameter. Dead and hard word is a different matter when you get into the one inch area. This tool is made to cut relatively small limbs. Do not buy it and expect to go out and start your own logging operation. I note that some forks have problems after they have used their pruner for a bit with the blade not making contact correctly...it being out of line. This is almost always caused by cutting and twisting at the same time. This sort of thing will break ANY pruner! It this problem happens, even with the previous abuse mentioned, I have found that simply tightening the bolt will usually fix the problem.

I not that several folks have had problems with the locking mechanism i.e. the pruner stays open. I happen to own two of these things and each had the same problem. I have found that if you just work the mechanism back and forth about ten or twenty times that the problem will simply go away.

The sap grove on this tool makes sticking unlikely and this tool gives a very nice clean and precise cut.

Note that this tool, like all tools, needs to be dried and cleaned after every use and a drop of oil now and then is highly recommended.

The handles are extremely comfortable but since they are made of a plastic material they do not do well if you leave them out in the sun and elements for extended periods of time. (We are talking weeks and months here). Plastic, my nature, will deteriorate over time. It is also noted that if you drop these thing in a brush pile and then burn the brush pile, it will ruin the pruner. Trust me...I know this to be a fact.

Are there better pruners out there? You bet there are, but you will pay far, far more money for them that the cost quoted here. For the money and for what you get for your money, it is difficult to beat these things.

Bought 'em; now looking for something better

Decent quality except the tension piece is constantly popping out of its place which means stopping what your doing and getting another tool to fix it. Decent for light pruning but don't expect to be cutting 1/4" sticks all day. Why is it so hard to find good pruning shears??

I purchased this on Gold Box deal and it was defective... the latch that keeps it closed would not engage after a really tough time opening it. I mentioned the GB deal because when Amazon shipped me a new pair the price had dropped by a buck and had I checked before asking for a replacement I'd just done a return and made a new purchase for the savings... because that's how cheap I am! As usual, Amazon made the return simple and shipped a replacement right away. My wife has a very small hand and this pair is a great fit for her because of the angled handles. I gave it 4 stars because the first one was defective but otherwise I'd be going with 5.

Fell apart after light use

I bought them in October 2014, used them for a month and a half, then a little bit in March. In April 2015 when I picked them up they literally fell apart. Quite surprising. I am not a professional gardener so it is not like I was using them every day. Frankly I've hardly used them at all. I only have 10 shrubs to trim from time to time. I understand though that once in a while there might be a defective product, so I will contact producer and see what they can do for me. For now only two stars due to bad experience.

These are great. Nothing makes yard work a drag like bad tools, I got this pruning shear to replace an aging rusty one. The new one cuts tree limbs and branches like butter. The handle is ergonomic and does not hurt my hand. I would buy these again if they get lost or stolen.

I have used these shears over the past year or so to cut/prune/trim everything from stubborn old shrubbery to small trees to young plants.

These cutters have excellent hand feel and blades which hold an edge. They get the job done and do it well.

My only issue, which happens to be of my own doing (so it may not be as much about the scissors as it is of my own oafishness) is I left the scissors out for a while and the tension spring between the handles rusted. Now it has an annoying sound to it and a gritty feel when I use it.

It's more of a cosmetic issue than an issue of functionality, really. The blades continue to hold their edges about a year later. I would recommend this product.
