*** September 2013 EDIT ***
A few people have contacted us at JDS Labs recently with concerns about the strength of this tool. It seems that quality has changed in 2013. We've punched over 25,000 holes with Fiskars punches since 2009. The average Fiskars hole punch historically managed to punch 2500-5000 aluminum holes (excellent!). Thus, we've maintained a small shop inventory of 5+ backup hole punches just in case the tools would be discontinued. When we restocked our hole punches this year, I found that 3 of 4 brand new Fiskars punches failed on the very first punch! The metal handle bent immediately. I figured the first was a fluke, but when the same problem happened with the 2nd, I tested the 3rd punch on thin cardboard and it also failed immediately. Fortunately, the 4th unit worked like a charm. We've punched several hundred holes this month. But 25% success is not impressive, and this certainly does not reflect the success we had with this tool between 2009-2012.
Only one real complaint - it is kinda hard to tell where exactly the hole will end up. For example, it's hard to make a straight row of evenly spaced heart holes.
There is a picture of a heart near the punch, which helps a bit with alignment, but you still have to "eyeball" it.
Better alignment aids would be beneficial on a product like this.
One last thing to note - if you push the paper all the way into the device (all the way to the joint) - there's a sharp spot near the joint that will nick the edge of the paper.
The only reason it doesn't get five stars is because I have another Fiskars punch that has a much nicer grip on it that this one. I was expecting just a little more.
It just took me a couple of tries to figure out that the paper has to go under the clip that lifts the hole-catcher. I first put it over, and then it was hard to get the paper out of the punch without tearing.
I would be willing to assume that the individual item I received was defective, except that the one I borrowed briefly as a replacement -- exactly the same model -- worked precisely the same way. Uncomfortable, shoddy, misaligned. Will not replace, wouldn't recommend. I may end up keeping it in my desk at work to loan to people I dislike.

Doesn't seem to punch very cleanly at all. The alignment is off and one can't even get the punch to fully depress with nothing in it let alone a piece of paper.Published 6 days ago by Stomata
Initially i loved this - a lot. The ergonomic handles are by far better than plain metal ones. But after a few punches the little paper hearts get caught in the punch EVERY. Read morePublished 7 days ago by Amazon Customer
