Keep it Clean: Regularly clean your band and wrist—especially after working out or sweating. Rinse the band with water or wipe it with a small amount of rubbing alcohol. Do NOT use hand soap, body soap, dish soap, hand sanitizers, cleaning wipes or household cleaners which could get trapped beneath the band and irritate skin. Always dry the band well before putting it back on. Keep it Dry: While Fitbit devices are water resistant*, it’s not good for your skin to wear a wet band for long periods of time. If your elastomer band gets wet—like after sweating or showering—rinse and dry it thoroughly before putting it back on your wrist. Be sure your skin is dry before you put your band back on. Don’t Wear It Too Tight: Make sure your band isn’t too tight. Wear the band loosely enough that it can move back and forth on your wrist. If you use Fitbit products with Purepulse Heart Rate tracking, for better heart rate readings during exercise, we suggest wearing the band so it’s secure, but not too tight, and wearing the band higher on your wrist (about 2-3 finger widths above your wrist bone). Lower the band on your wrist and loosen it after exercise. Give Your Wrist a Rest: Prolonged rubbing and pressure may irritate the skin, so give your wrist a break by removing the band for an hour after extended wear. Really bad Fitbit customer service and charging cable breaks often

First - the charger broke 2x since i bought it (18 months). Second, this is the fiasco I had to deal with calling Fitbit support this morning (: I had a very very disappointing experience with Fitbit today. My Alta is out of warranty (1 year) and I had an issue with my charging cable (initially i had another issue where it broke after a few months). They would not send me a new charging cable, so I was going to file a claim with my insurance provider who needs my serial number. I couldn't get this info on my band or account, so I called Fitbit. They would not give me my serial number! I spoke to an extremely rude "supervisor"(Mario) who said the serial number is ONLY on the original box and he does not have the number. This is after his employee told me they have the number. When I called Mario out on the lie, he admitted he lied. I find this business practice very unscrupulous. It sounds like they are working with insurance provider to defraud their customers from claiming the warranty that we pay for?? I paid full price for my Fitbit, I should be able to get my serial number! If i am not allowed to, then Fitbit needs to rightly warn it's customer that the serial number is only available on the packaging. Fitbit is practicing misleading and fraudulent business practices. My family has Apple watches, now I know why they don't support Fitbit as a business. I hope whoever reads this do something about it (give customers the serial number of the device they purchased), including fixing your customer service or your company is going to lose more customers and go bankrupt. Unbelievable! Mario is the worse supervisor I've dealt with in a long time, with clear communication / attitude / comprehension problems. Fitbit Alta Fitness Tracker, Silver/Teal, Small (US Version)

I don't think this little thing needs more reviews but I am so thankful I ordered this.
I didn't know what it would do for me, but it definitely does hold you accountable! it's literally the only thing that has worked for me. Ever. I lost 11 pounds in two weeks JUST by keeping with my stepping goal which is 10K a day. I do more but no less and this little thing definitely got me off the couch. I cannot stress enough that from someone who battled addiction and gained about 100 pounds and was super unmotivated that I went straight into doing cardio all because of this little buddy. I started at little by little and actually hiked a few miles the second week! That's huge for me! I'm plus sized and the small fit! I didn't want to order a bigger one because that was also a motivator. It does so well, you won't need all the bells and whistles. Enjoy it!

Fitbits are disposable trackers - they will work about 16 months (until just out of warranty)

Like many fitbits, (we have had 3 over the last few years, none of them work anymore), this one stopped charging after 14 months (2 months out of warranty).
Fitbit used to stand behind their products more. But I think they have had so many quality issues, that they have stopped standing behind the products.
Fitbit would not send us a replacement charger (cost of about $5), so we will buy one here. But we won't buy fitbit ever again.

I purchased a Fitbit Alta, and used it daily for 11 months before it died. I didn't get it wet, didn't leave it in direct sunlight or stick it in a microwave, and typically wore it in my pants pocket every day, so I have no idea why it quit working. When I contacted Fitbit, they immediately offered to send me a shipping label to return it, and then sent me an identical replacement Alta within a few days of receiving the old one. This replacement Fitbit is unstoppable. I’ve used it for three years, and it is an amazing little fitness/sleep tracker. I’ve replaced the bands a few times when they get gross or worn out, but this little tracker just keeps on going.

This is such a fun and helpful little gadget -- when it worked I really enjoyed it! I received it on May 22, 2020 but it will not hold a charge as of July 1, 2020.

Planned obsolescence?

That is outside of the return window on Amazon -- the person in customer service was really nice and really helpful but once it is outside the return window Amazon won't help.

A reason to buy this locally?!?

Anyway, the woman was kind enough to tell me that her Fitbit from Amazon had the exact same problem and that Fitbit exchanged the defective one for one that functions.

So we'll see.

I’ve had my FitBit Alta for 2.5 years now. I wear it everyday. I don’t shower with it, I don’t swim with it, and I don’t wear it for formal occasions, like weddings and other black tie events. Other then that, it is always on my wrist. I’ve lost 24 lbs and gotten stronger from just wearing the FitBit, it motivates me to walk, instead of sitting around. I know there are more advanced versions of the FItBit, but I like the Alta because it’s small, and doesn’t look like the Apple Watch. It does everything I need from it. It can also display my text messages, but I don’t have that activated. It tracks my steps, it tracks my sleep, it shows my active minutes, miles walked, my calories burned, and it shows the time and date. There’s noting more I need. It’s fun to partake with friends in challenges like the work week hustle and other similar ones. Also very important to note, FitBit has excellent customer service, just exceptional, contact them when needed. The bracelet will break over time. It is so easy to find many different kinds on Amazon.

I was relatively happy with my Alto until it stopped working while on holiday. I didn’t worry too much and thought(hoped) it might be something to do with where I was and maybe I had missed an update. After arriving home and lots of trying to reset it etc I realised the battery just wasn’t holding any charge. This appears to becoming a common complaint according to the forums. Strange how these things have faults almost exactly a year after receiving and a week out of warranty! They might as well say “yours for a whole year “ in the marketing. At least that would be honest.

I am very unhappy with the product. I have been a fitbit user for a few users, and have been using Alta for myself for the past 2 years.

Based on my good experience, last week I bought a new Alta for both my parents, but so far it has been a total disappointment. The tracker loses charge very quickly, and in addition to that it shuts down unexpectedly every now and then, even when there is charge left in the tracker.

It's clear that the reason these are cheaper than the official website is that they are defective and crap. I am contacting the seller to return the trackers.

Don’t buy - charging fault!

I bought one of these for my fitness fanatic Father-in-law who trains heavily and regularly at least three times a week and does lighter bike rides and walks everyday. The first Fitbit lasted 5months before it would no longer charge. I sent it back and they replaced it with an identical new one which then broke after just 3 months. I’m still waiting for a response. It seems that once they have already replaced a faulty item they no longer replace consecutively faulty items. The reoccurring fault with both watches must be a design/manufacturer error as I’ve spoken to other customers who have experienced the same problem. Would not buy another one!

The charger's side is loose in the box and the clip no longer holds the charger in place. Rather than returning the full thing, we would just like a replacement charger please. Thank You. Not sure why Fitbit are so popular. I bought an Alta for my daughters birthday. It arrived quickly but would not connect with any Android phone, iPad or PC/laptop. Sent back to Amazon for a replacement.
New one arrived quickly, (Great work Amazon) - absolutely dead. Not a peep out of it! On it's way back to Amazon now!
My mum and sister both have constant problems syncing their Fitbits! Come on Fitbit, get your act together.
Great looking devices but no where near as reliable as my Garmin which hasn't missed a beat in 4 years and syncs first time, every time!
