I was looking for information on the Seminole tribe, and this book is helpful. It explains how they were relocated, but I was hoping for more info of the tribe before they were "civilized". Like their ancient traditions, etc...

I have known this for years. but this adds to my conception of how they were treated. I however didn't know that so many were highly educated and worked to improve themselves.

I was disappointed in this book. The author wrote it in the 1930's and is obvious he held the view of Native Americans as uncivilized and unworthy of being citizens. I was really hoping to get real good research on the culture and subsequent mistreatment of the Five Civilized Tribes in America. Once again, it appears the author considers anyone not of "European Descent" to be uncivilized. If nothing else, reading the book at least reminds me of how ignorant and greedy our government and "citizens of European descent" were when it came to the inhabitants of this country we now call America.

Very well researched and written. I've been doing research on the Indian Territory and this has been a definite asset to my collection. Only wish it took me through the war years.
