While reading this book, I was entrenched in the fast-paced, page-turning story. I felt like I was reading the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo or Smila's Sense of Snow. But each time I stepped back for a minute, I realized that Five Grounds was making me explore my own views on the immigration debate. I was truly "putting myself in others' shoes" as the characters in the book led me through the "for" and "against" arguments. As a health care professional who works in an area replete with undocumented immigrants, I have never felt better equipped to try to understand the multiple perspectives around my patients' legal conundrums...and all of this from a very fun, escapist fictional read to which I could kick up my feet at the end of a long day.
Bravo Scott Rempell!
thought provoking on an important and complex subject. Scott Rempell does
an outstanding job of presenting the different bios and allowing the reader to
empathize with the characters, without compromising an honest and unbiased
portrayal of the immigration system. Excellent discussion for classroom or book
