There are two very different books being sold and reviewed, but they both start out on the same product page. The title of both is "Five Little Monkeys Reading in Bed" and they are both by Eileen Christelow. However, one of them is a hardback with 40+ pages and the other is a paper back with eight pages. The former is the actual book; the latter is a promo put out by Scholastic Books. The problem is that Amazon does not seem to realize there are two different books. On the original product description page, they have the book as having three different formats: hard cover, soft cover and kindle. The description on the original page is correct. However, if you click on the used/paper back format link, it takes you to the eight-page book. Unless, when you are on that page, you click on the link that says "return to product description", and then scroll down and read the description, you will not know that you have started looking at the promo, 8-page book. It is extremely misleading. I ended up ordering the eight page book by mistake, then had to order the hard back. It appears that the original book has not yet been produced as a paper back. The way you can tell the difference between the two versions, is to look for the little red label, centered at the bottom of the cover page. If it says "Scholastic Books," that is the eight page version. I would not recommend getting it....but the hard back book is very cute.

Dont buy the paperback version, only buy the hardback version to insure you get the right version, but it super fun, flows great and my kids will have me read it to them over and over...better then Llama Llama series and Pout Pout Fish...its my fav.

There may not be a child in the U.S. who has not sung the song: "Five Little Monkeys Jumping On the Bed." Children enjoy the nonsense and laugh as the monkey's get bumped on the head. This book is just as fun. My young grandson has requested that this book be read over and over at his bedtime. Those five silly monkeys reading and reading are so encouraging to the young reader. I think this was a happy purchase and would recommend the book to anyone who has a little preschooler or early reader in the family. I have had as much fun reading the story to my grandson as he has had fun in hearing it read. We also both enjoy the book's illustrations.

My almost-four year old daughter loves the 5 little monkey books, and when I saw this one I just had to get it for her. It is so much fun to read, and I love that the monkeys love to read and show how much fun reading is. Of course, these mischieveous little monkeys are reading in bed late at night after Mama told them to go to sleep... but finally they do realize it is time to go to bed, and they can read more tomorrow!

Bought this since my little one loves the Five Little Monkeys (jumping in bed) version, but this story is a bit strange and not as catchy as the other one. This is her least favorite book and she pretty much loves all her books.

seriously? mine was like 8 pages long...like four pages front and back...was that normal? The monkeys read a funny book then a scary one and then boom it was over...i did not think that it would be this short of a book...my daughter does not like it because its kind of pointless to read!

I have and love all the "Five Little Monkeys". I read them constantly for both of my Grandchildren, ages 5 (boy) and almost 2 (girl). These are and have been the books of choice for both of them. With the repetitive, rhyming words, we all have fun reading them!

A little short for my taste but still funny.

Five Little Monkeys Reading in Bed is a whole new twist on a classic. This book is about five little monkey who just want to stay up late. As a parent, we know the importance of sleep but as children, they just want to read.

What a fun way to encourage kids and get them excited to enjoy a good book?
