This title’s articles include topics such as parenting (detailed by some of Allah’s personal experiences) making sacrifices for the betterment of one’s community, misogyny, Hip-Hop, the KKK and masonry, Caucasian Five Percenters, and various explorations of Five Percenter conduct, studiousness, and of course politics.
Allah likes to dig in and challenge his readers- his criticism of the commitment of other Five Percenters can be overwhelming in tone, but as a reader who knows and respects Allah’s vast accomplishments and his verifiable, consistent dedication to empowering others, and in particular the youth, this is easily forgiven. That being said- he hits a lot of important notes. Memorizing and speaking the language of Supreme Mathematics and the Supreme Alphabet is no trick, if all you want to do is casually speak the language of a Five Percenter. The depth and true value in 120 lessons comes with study, deconstruction, and intense consideration, scrutiny and application, all of which Allah encourages in his readers.
Allah champions the “it takes a village” approach to guiding the youth, and advises his readers of the importance of self-sacrifice in the interest of improving communities. His views almost take on a conservative flavor as he champions family values, education, hard work, and personal accountability- and later discusses the pitfalls and risks of homosexuality in Nation building. In his article about Hip-Hop, Allah muses about terms like “Selling-Out” all too familiar to those of us over 35 who were entrenched in Hip-Hop culture early on- I personally called up the outrage some fans felt when their favorite artists began doing Sprite commercials in the early 90’s. Allah reminds us that “selling out” is still a reality, despite it’s lack of being denoted- as artists of yesteryear were once ostracized for the same shallow behaviors for which artists of today are celebrated. Later, Allah continues with the examination of the generational disconnect with regard to slang and spoken ideas in his clever chapter, “The Fossil Phrase Phenomenon,” in which he describes how changing language has the power to affect our mindset and actions.
Since I happen to be a “white” Five Percenter, I will expound mostly upon Allah’s thoughts of Caucasian Five Percenters. Despite my sharing European blood with Middle Eastern blood (like the Puerto Ricans with European blood) who had migrated to New York and were eventually mostly embraced by the Gods, I have lived with all the benefits of being identified as white in America. I personally began developing knowledge of self in 1990 when I was 13, in a friends and family setting. I didn’t feel satisfied with my fragmented Understanding and level of study so I continued as an adult. In all honesty, I mostly learned from black men who learned their lessons in prison after (admittedly) making big mistakes. Walking and talking. These same men mostly have gone on to do work in their respective communities and consistently dedicate a large portion of their time to teaching and helping others grow. Although my experience has been wearying, being constantly subject to mistrust, doubt, and many times humiliation and abuse, Allah’s concerns about Caucasian Five Percenters are justified and important to absorb. Even Azrael (the first known white Five Percenter) has been reportedly criticized routinely by some Gods for his lifestyle, and perceived failings. His other descriptions also ring true- What is their role? What is their story? What are they contributing in the context of this culture, and why are they attempting to come amongst us? Many whites I have encountered do not accept that essentially they are dabbling in a paint box that was intended for black thought, and allow their personal egos to cause them to shut down and not honestly examine the racial component of the lessons, or feel more obliged to find acceptance by using the language than find their own way and use the available tools to enhance the Understanding of other whites to work toward the intended purpose of this once exclusive and protected information.
The first time I encountered Five Percenters was an episode of bullying and unprovoked black on white racial abuse (it exists if we’re going by definition) in 1989, when some High School kids (Trenton, NJ) were telling me I had hair like an animal, skin like a pig, and was born unholy and rotten, as was my father. I didn’t believe them then, and after decades of study, I still maintain that I was born with a nature as good a man as any black man I have ever met (be this a freak occurrence or not), as was my father (a blues musician who raised me quite differently than many other whites in a home that included many faces of diversity at our table.) The lessons only helped enhance my Understanding of the historical events that have lead to the global social inequality we are ceeing now. Even as a Five Percenter, I emphatically refuse to have ever hosted any type of disability or genetic wickedness, especially in the face of it being socially or culturally imposed on me, personally. Any Original person who has gotten to know me would be hard pressed to accuse me, warts and all, of ever being “Devilish.” Those who would, are also the type to put the failings of Gods or black men guilty of serious atrocities in fine print, and bold everything any white man lacks. Perhaps I was engulfed so early in this world-view that it prevented some landmines built right in to our society which other whites often stumble upon, or perhaps I’m only “good” from my own point of view which can never be a black one. All that being said, this is a line of study intended for black (Original) people, and it was born and then rebuilt, and reinterpreted under conditions of European racism against dark skinned people- and should be respected as such. A philosophical disagreement (amongst other things) provoked one white writer (who Allah discusses) to publish this Nation’s Universal flag in a pink coloring- which to me is an inexcusable overstepping of boundaries regardless to context. One piece of advice I can offer whites, is content over presentation. It’s more useful to help guide the minds of others to the truth about the history of civilization on Earth using plain language, unidentified, than to speak Five Percenter language amongst the uninitiated whites and communicate nothing. This is a quality which Allah demonstrates masterfully, and by virtue of plain communication his messages are more Universal, and useful to all.
Many of the lessons which make up the bulk of the Five Percenter curriculum began as a tool to empower those Asiatic (blacks) who were either stolen or sold, and were intentionally transformed and conditioned to believe they were intellectually inferior to their white counterparts. Their history, language, and culture (the building blocks of all civilization on Earth) purposefully muddied and hidden. The events described in many of the lessons to which Allah refers illustrate this process of dehumanization and regardless to form, always has had the crucially needed empowerment and reorientation of Original people resting at the core. There are few better writers and speakers (whose words are available to the public) that examine the beauty, meaning and depth of this culture better, or as accessibly as S. Quanaah Allah. I would encourage any Five Percenter or lover of sociology and history to get familiar and stay familiar with Allah’s work. He has contributed a massive amount to this discussion of race, our civic duty as people, and I-God culture that has intrigued and benefited many of us (myself included, and by relation my academic students) and as he says, “It’s all about our deeds.” Peace!
