There's a trade off in that sense and why this shoes may seem a bit tighter fitting and seems very flexible. If you want the 'best' ankle support, I would either wear separate ankle guard (if you tend to roll your ankles) or consider another shoes. But that flex also provide much needed movement when you're on a slipper rock on an uneven terrain where thinner soled shoes provide better sense of where your feet are.
If you're wondering why I'm wearing this on a bike, I ride bicycle trials and rely a lot on the 'feel' of the pedals. This goes same with grips being thinner and it's common for trials riders to use thin soled shoes. While I would not recommend this shoes for say parkour or require more dampening like skateboarding, if your shoes need to contour the surface in variety of terrains then this is it.
Since the shoes was designed for use with wet area it does dry fast and keeps your feet cool during hot summer. The sole of course uses FiveTen's special compound so wet surface becomes much grippier and the only time I noticed any sort of slip was on a very smooth rocks that were wet. I don't think there's not much you can do there but still gave me enough confidence to walk around. And it's quiet! On any flat surface like for example at a mall you won't make much noise walking with it...like a Ninja. I seriously creeped out people walking from behind as it's virtually soundless walking outside with it.
After a year I did notice the black outer layer in the back is starting to peel a bit but still going strong. The bottom sole hasn't ripped which is common with these types of shoes and if they're still available say another year from now I'll likely pick up another pair.
