Laney was an enjoyable character to read. She has great values and a funny friend. Her conversations with Fiona were hilarious and also heartwarming. Fiona is the kind of friend to have she helps and expects nothing in return and she is always there for Laney. I also enjoyed the relationship between Laney and her brother, Gavin. I have to say I don't know many brothers who would step up and help her take care of Rocco the way he did. It was downright impressive! Even though he was a freeloader until he got the construction job I feel he was worth having in Laneys house. The fighting and bickering they do reminded me of my childhood and you could see the love they had for each other even though they were fighting. The way that Rocco imitates Gavin is so cute! Even though Gavin is not perfect he seems perfect to Rocco. Speaking of Rocco, he is Laneys 5 year old son, he brought a lot to Laney and Nate's story and also got his own little side story.
Nate wasn't interested in looking for a girlfriend but once he saw Laney and all her spitfire coming at him to protect her friend, he knew he wanted to see more of her and her smart mouth. Now getting Laney to see him let alone date him was another matter. She only saw him as Gavin's boss so he pulled out all the stops and started working on her house that way he could get to spend time with her….sneaky right?
Nate and Laneys story wasn't all sweetness which was good because it made it seem more real. One example was how their personal time was cut short or was pretty much nil because of Rocco. Any single parent could identify with that happening. It was also interesting on Nate and Rocco's relationship. Kids are tricky to get a read on any day and It was interesting watching Nate try to figure out Rocco.
Good solid story and I am looking forward to more in the series!
Nothing big and complicated-- just people with a bit of baggage figuring out what to do when they find their "one"
Predictable storyline. Believable characters with distinct personalities. Entertaining and snarky dialogue.
No desire to re-read this story. I am interested in other works by author.
