For starters somewhere in the description the author, or whoever writes them, should have specified that this book was m/f just as much as it was m/m. There were equal if not more m/f scenes in this book then m/m and I don't just mean sex.
Now onto the absolute worst part of this book and one of the worst "secondary" characters I've ever read in a book; India. She killed this book and not in a good way. Somehow this m/m romance novel turned into a story about how Valentino's girlfriend/fiancé (never really clear on that) was troubled but also a complete psycho bitch. There was way too much in this story about how India was doing or where India was or if India would be forgiving. Honestly this was a book I finished but will never read again because of this horrendous woman. Towards the end when the miscarriage was happening I hated her even more at a time where I believe we readers were supposed to be feeling sympathetic. The fact that she knew she was pregnant and willingly went up to the country home with 6 people she hated and proceeded to get completely wasted for 2-3 nights in a row was absolutely disgusting.
Also I really wanted to like Alexander's brother Ashton I really did but the way the author wrote his character in comparison to India was like WTF. He comes home from Australia after finding his wife cheating with his best friend and immediately feels sympathy for the woman who is openly cheating on her boyfriend/fiancé with his brother. I just don't understand where the author was coming from with this relationship or going with it if that's what Book 2 is going to be about. Ash and India's story is going to be a do not read for me.Read more ›
Okay….I’m going to do the “good” first as I don’t want to start off this review in a negative manner. It’s such a good book, and I really wouldn’t want to put anyone off reading it because of the grumbles I have. I got this yesterday and it took me a few hours to read, I found that I really didn’t want to put it down yet as we all know real life forces us to. I got really swept up in Alexander and Valentino’s story. The book had this pull that compelled me to keep reading. I love when a book does that. I didn’t skip read, it wasn’t boring but neither was it overwhelming. It was a good, easy read and totally relatable. There’s a myriad of good characters in here, with some fab development going on. One or two characters were left a little lacking but I know that’s because they are destined for a future plot in another book. I liked that; after all you can’t give it all away at once now can you?
M/M, which is a favourite genre of mine. Sometimes this genre can get a bit seedy when it comes to descriptive narrative but when you find one that isn’t then you know you’re getting a good read. And this is. There’s lots of angst, hurt, tears, miscommunication and misunderstandings going on in here yet it’s extremely easy to keep up with. The dynamics of Val and Alex’s relationship are quite complex in nature but faced with their story I wouldn’t expect it any other way. There was a lot of back and forth between the characters and some meddling from an utterly adorable best friend Jen. Alice stole the show for me though. She doesn’t feature too heavily in Fixed but oh my word, I loved her. She truly gives you some laugh out loud moments. Those balanced the book I think.Read more ›
