From the Author
My best friend and I waited for her dad to pick us up from elementary school. I could smell a hint of smoke in the air, but I couldn't see anything. It wasn't until I was seated in the backseat of the car and we turned toward home when a smoke plume became visible. It stretched above the trees, reaching higher into the sky. The color went from light to dark gray. While staring at it, my mouth went dry, my palms became slick with sweat, and it felt as though my heart sank to my gallbladder. For a reason I could not explain, that smoke plume terrified me.
And then my best friend's dad said something to me I'll never forget, "It looks like it's right next to your house."
One of my characters says that in Flaming Crimes.

Chrys Fey is a disabled, tattooed author of books featuring heroines of steel. Her Disaster Crimes series is a unique blend of romance, disasters, and crimes, influenced by her own experiences with natural disasters. The conclusion of her series inspired her to create TheFightingChance.org, a resource for domestic violence survivors. On her blog, WritewithFey.com, she supports, empowers, and teaches fellow writers. She also edits for freelance clients and co-hosts a local writers group.
Fey got the idea for her first book when she was twelve and discovered a rusted screw with a crooked tip buried in grass. That screw was a key to an unknown world with an extraordinary character born in heaven.
She is a fur baby mom of four rescued cats. For fun, she photographs antiques, makes playlists, and creates flip cup paintings of Avrianna’s nebula. She loves Halloween, autumn, and gargoyles.

Beth is on the road to recovery with the constant care of her loving husband but finally realizes she must gather her courage, shake off the past, and begin their future. But this is an action-adventure novel, so just when Donovan and Beth think the coast is clear and they can start their family, an unusually dry spring brings on dozens of flash fires and mysterious messages appear bringing devastation on a whole new level.
Is it the drug dealer that Beth helped put behind bars right before her wedding, an ex-boyfriend, or the assistant she fired for inappropriate behavior? As a self-defense instructor, Beth is skilled at finding ways to get the upper hand on her assailants, but the bad guy/s are angry and determined as always.
Want a fast ride, hot romance, and two likable characters, then Flaming Crimes is the book for you, but don’t settle for just one story about these two adventurous characters, there’s an entire disaster series to entertain you!
I wonder what’s next for this adventurous couple. Did someone say blizzard?
Beth proves herself, once again, to be a real bad ass who's willing to put her life on the line for the people she loves, but her poignant desire to have a baby adds a vulnerable side to her personality, too. What can I say? The more we get to know the recurring characters in this series, the more likable they become. Since it's called a "Disaster Series," I don't think the author is gonna let them off the perilous merry-go-round any time soon... but one can hope. Poor things deserve a break...
These books just keep getting better, more action and more suspense, I don't know how the author does it but I like it. Narrator Bill Nevitt gives it another awesome performance and I can not wait for the next book. Beth and Donovan have become family and I love hearing what they are up too and how they beat the bad guys.
Fires must be one of the most frightening things to face. It’s alive, “it breathes, eats, and moves”.
First thing on the agenda, though, is they are trying to make a baby.
I love Grandma, and this is what she had to say about that: “Maybe it’s the sperm.”
Donovan: “My sperm is fine.”
Grandma: “Well, maybe you’re not doing it right.”
Donovan: I’m doing it right!”
Grandma: “How do you know?”
Donovan: “Believe me…I know!”
Grandma: “Hmm. Well, if you need any pointers…”
Beth teaches self defense classes and her helper is a little too hands on. Could there be cause for alarm? I didn’t like that Beth didn’t get rid of him right off the bat. Beth’s clients are abused women, so I’m sure she doesn’t want to expose them to more of that.
Chrys deals with sensitive issues of women’s abuse, sexual assault, and rape in a great way, and if you take any self defense classes from Beth…well…you will be able to hold your own.
I loved it when they went to the batting cages…when Beth did the splits…laughing out loud funny.
The car chase through the fire was wildly exciting, exhilarating and dangerous.
Chrys writes about their love life in sweet, innocent words, but don’t take them for pushovers. The dialogue is full of sweet sexual innuendo that I can’t help but smile at. Romance, we have a lot of romance, but when the danger comes, it hits them both. But…who? Why?
Flaming Crimes from Chrys Fey has everything needed for a heart stopping, pulse pounding roller coaster ride through disaster and danger.
