First, assembly was simple and straightforward. Nothing to report there. The only issue I had was a little difficulty with the arm by the height adjustment lever, as the lever is a little in the way. Nothing major, just required a little more work.
Second, the leather is nice and soft, and I really like how it feels. However, it is also thin, so you will want to be careful not to bang it around. My desk is an old office writing desk, not designed for computers, so the entry is a little narrow and this chair bumps into it a lot. This resulted in me damaging the leather a bit where it bumped. I just have to be more careful.
Finally, the seat itself. For me, the back is fine, the arms are fine (I don't mind that it isn't adjustable), but there are two weak points that keep me from really giving this glowing praise.
1.) The connection point between the height-adjustable rod and the seat itself seems a little "loose." Even after re-securing the bolts and making sure everything is tight, the chair still has a little wiggle to it, for example, when I push the chair out or shift my weight from one side to another. I'm concerned this may be a break point as wear and tear diminishes its durability.
2.) The seat cushioning itself, while exquisitely comfortable the first day, quickly became squished within a week. I weigh around 190-195 lbs, so if you are lighter, it may last a little longer. But I wouldn't expect it to last much longer. With the way the seams are designed, I think I could very easily take it apart to add some extra cushioning (I have a friend that bought a bunch of shredded memory foam that would be ideal), but your average consumer would rather not be bothered. This is probably the largest failing of this chair.
As it stands, I would be hesitant to recommend it. If you are a lightweight, or willing to go to a little extra trouble to re-pad the seat, the ~$100 price tag I paid for this chair may be acceptable. For the price, a leather chair IS a very nice bargain. It just may require a little finagling to make it a pleasant sitting experience, especially over long periods of time.
For those concerned about height, I am of average height, and my desk stands a little higher than average and does not have a keyboard tray, but I am able to sit and type comfortably enough. It could stand to be maybe an inch or two taller, but putting a thick seat cushion under helps. If you have a standard computer desk or do not plan on typing, this chair will be more than adequate in height adjustment. If, perchance, you find it still sits too low, I did see replacement bars of varying heights available on Amazon for $8-15, and they all seem to use a standard size, so you could always swap out this part with one more suitable.
I had a luxurious executive chair from COSTCO, but the leather pealed after 5 years, and I spent most of my time cleaning up bits of black leather from the carpet. I bought this chair to replace it. Some basic notes:
1. Assembly took 20 minutes and can be done alone, but having a friend to help would be good when holding the pieces together to be screwed in.
2. Follow the pictorial instructions; they are excellent.
3. The chair is sturdy, essentially heavy metal and is by no means too small.
4. The chair does not encourage long long periods in front of the computer, which is good. That is, it's not so luxurious that you can sink into it for hours. But it is very comfortable for whatever academic work you might be doing at a desk or on the computer.
5.Backrest moves back comfortably; hydraulic system works well.
6. All this is based on day one, hour one of ownership and use.
the first 6 months in different areas. The back on one bent so fast that if you sit and lean on it the whole chair wants to flip backwards. Had my bookkeeper fallen and gotten hurt we would have been in big trouble!!!They will not hold any locked height for any duration. They all gradually lower by themselves very slowly. The lock lever that keeps the chair straight wont hold snd you are rocking back and forth all the time. Parts fall out from underneath and trust me, we are mechanics, we installed them properly and tight. At $69.95 they are overpriced by about 60 bucks. Buyer beware.
