After a disastrous night out on the job where everything that wasn’t supposed to happen, did happen, Persephone is now forced to face it all, including her master.
As usual, Sarah grabs you with her writing and her story refuses to let you go, even after you’ve closed the book. Flavor of Regret is no different; it’s filled with EVERYTHING you want and need and expect from Sarah – and trust me…. When it comes to Sarah’s writing, I expect A LOT by now ;-) And somehow she manages to surprise me over and over again.
Flavor of Regret is a fresh of breath air and I loved how she incorporated the Grim Reapers into a dark and seductive world where a kiss could mean the end of everything. Persephone is a devil in disguise, quirky, hardworking and tend to bend the rules now and then. But Persephone isn’t the only one we met here; Jackson, who really have a taste for danger and really should listen to what others say just once in a while, Lucifer himself, someone you just can’t tame but sure would like to try, Target #73 and Harlow.
If you love Sarah’s JackRabbit7 series, I am certain you will enjoy her new Grim Reaper Series as well. Flavor of Regret is a great start to this series and it gives us everything that we have come to expect from Sarah; cliffhangers, suspension, cursing (from the reader), joy, twisted and awesome characters, plot twists you didn’t see coming. All sprinkled with just a nip of hope and love.
Persephone is a grim, one of the best. She sold her soul a few hundred years ago. For what I dont know, I mean I asked and Carr told me I had to wait to find out. Ugh whatever. So yeah Sephone is a pretty good grim but theres one that has eluded her 73. When Jackson, Sephones ex and bounty hunter comes in telling her he knows where to find 73 all bets are off. Well theres actually is a bet but thats besides the point.
Sephone takes Jackson with her for a series of reaps before they go after 73. After a series of unfortunate events Sephone breaks the rules and just when things really get intense BAM end of story and Carr tortures us!
Seriously all jokes aside this books is a wonderful prequel for the series it totally does it job and makes me want to read and devour!! Now I have to wait until February but ill be first in line to read more.
The story ends on a true "this can't be the end" cliff and, according to Ms. Carr, we have to wait until February for the novel to release. Until then, I'll twiddle my thumbs and try to figure out what Sarah has in store for us.
Normally I don't venture out of the norm with what I read. But when Sarah offered her story up for my review, I jumped on it. Her other stories have always held such intrigue for me that Flavor of Regret was an easy decision for me to take on to review.
Flavor of Regret is the beginning to the story about the Grims, death. Sephone is two hundred and some odd years old and she's only missed one mark, number seventy-three. When the only lead turns out to be someone from her past, her ex Jackson, Sephone is forced to join forces when the man she hoped to never have to deal with again. Jax and Sephone have a history that much is apparent, but Sarah does a fabulous job of keeping you guessing what exactly went wrong between these two. You're left with the mystery of what the story between Seph and Jax could be.
The writing was fabulous. Just enough to give you all the information and detail you need about this story but not too much that the story was laid straight out for you. Sarah drew me into the world of Grims, death, Lucifer and into the mystery of Jax and Seph.
I quite frankly can't wait for more from this series. This was the perfect introduction, and it didn't hurt any that it was set in Seattle. That may or may not have made me love it a little more.
5 stars for Flavor of Regret.
