FitJerk really "teaches you how to fish," so to speak. He provides you with excellent motivational tools and fitness-oriented advice that's applicable to all readers, no matter their level of knowledge on the topic. Not only that, but there are some very clearly laid out procedures and plans for improving your fat loss and muscle gaining abilities. He's gotten me back on the horse after falling behind on tracking my calorie intake and macro-nutrients, and I'm very much looking forward to putting his plans into action and seeing how they pan out.
P.S. I also recommend checking out the .pdf version of the book on his website. You get some bonus goodies if you buy it :)
seriously though, if you are interested in learning more about fitness, losing weight, or whatever your personal goal is - do yourself a favor and get this book. concepts that may seem difficult (what should I eat? when should I eat it?) are CLEARLY explained in this book. have you ever asked someone you think is fitness-savy and they told you to do X exercise for Y amount of sets and Z about of reps, but when you asked "why?" they looked like a deer in headlights? anyone can regurgitate stats about how lifting weights makes you stronger. but FJ explains WHY.
awesome, AWESOME book!
This book is an easy read cover to cover because of FJ's voice; the book is written like you are sitting in front of him - very conversational. If you are a literary type who get's her underwear in a jam because a comma is out of place or a sentence is ended with a preposition - go find an exercise book written by a fat english major that doesn't know what he's talking about. The delivery will be perfect but the content will be crap. While the book is polished and professional, FJ doesn't waste time with 5 syllable words or flowery language that less than 2% of the population know the meaning. I imagine most professional writers don't know a damn about lifting weights and exercise science which is why I'm not looking for Hemingway's prose or Elmore Leonard's dialogue in a fitness book.
The book gives you perspective, motivation, advice based on science (and he does include references if you are like me: "Trust but verify") meal plans, supplementation information, and more. Buy his book! I have been lifting since I was in high school playing football. I thought I knew all there was to know to working out since I have been lifting for close to 20 years. I was wrong. There is A LOT of misinformation out there... do yourself a favor and skip McDonald's night with the family and put the money to better use - buy this book.
I'd defnitely recommend it. I definitely enjoyed it and found it really helpful to meet my goals.
