Fledgling (The Shapeshifter Chronicles Book 1) Kindle Edition
"I have read Twilight, Harry Potter, and The Vampire Academy series and have liked them all. Fledgling is so good it deserves to be put among the best..."
Normal. Wouldn't that be nice?
Ana Hughes has always wanted to be like any other teenager. But her life threatening heart condition has always gotten in the way. A fresh start in a new town gives her the opportunity to pretend she's like everybody else.
When she meets handsome Chance Morgan, she suspects she isn't the only one keeping a secret. Chance's animal-like senses and miraculous healing ability make Ana question if he's playing tricks on her.
The truth may be too much for Ana's delicate heart. But there could be a greater danger if a supernatural world exists where everything, and everyone are not what they seem.

2013 NOMINEE - eFestival of Words
"A very solid written book with descriptions that allow you to perfectlysee the scene in the writer's mind and feel the emotions of thecharacters as they move through their story. The characters werebelievable along with even the paranormal aspects. The plot was deepenough to very much satisfy my mind and kept me guessing as to exactlyhow it would end."

"It was fantastic, and I'm looking forward to reading future books Brownwrites in the series. Having a congenital heart defect myself, Idefinitely identified with Ana, and everything she was going throughwith her heart problem. Brown definitely has a good sense of whatadolescents facing such problems must go through on a daily basis."
- Andrea Buginsky, Author of The Chosen
"Love, Love, Love this book! ... The romance was slow paced yet beautifullycrafted. Its refreshing to see young adults taking their time to knoweach before assuming an instant relationship."

I see there is another book in the series though I am not sure where that is going to take us. As where the ending left off was a good closure.
My favorite part of this book is how family is a big deal! Not only that, but your ability to combine magic and real life blew my mind! I have had such an amazing time reading it. Also I loved how that you put a clue into the title. There wasn’t anything I disliked about the whole book. I loved it! And it was the first time in a long time I couldn’t put the book down. I would stay up really late and I’m talking about 2 to 3 in the morning reading it. Well done! I can’t wait to read the second book.
My ONLY complaint or trouble was her book needed MORE proofreading. I found numerous places where sentences were incomplete, or improper English. At times a group of words didn't fit to the prior sentence or the paragraph, etc. I finally decided, that, it almost seemed like NO ONE had proofed the book before FINAL printing. A few here or there you just skip or figure it out somehow what it SHOULD have been. This book was almost impossible as there were places that were gibberish and you had to just avoid the whole set of words as UNKNOWN! :(

The ideas behind this story were really good. I liked that the main female character wasn't a 'pathetic' female, despite having a heart defect. I found her to be more of a fighter, and I liked that aspect of the book. The main characters were fairly believable, despite the 'fantasy' aspect. It was nice to have a book that blends real life issues like heart defects with the paranormal. I enjoyed reading it, and I felt the ending was pretty good and left you interested in what would happen in the next book, without leaving you wondering what happened too much.
The one thing I would say is this could be absolutely amazing with a bit more development. The characters could have a bit more depth. Chase's grandfather is supposed to be mysterious, but I think he could have been made more interesting at the same time. The only benefit to this is that I didn't realise that he would be involved with the main plot ending, although I felt I could tell where the ending was going...
I felt that some of the most interesting parts of the story were a little bit rushed, and on occasion hard to follow, which was a shame because the ideas were sound. If these ideas were led into more gradually, and with more description, I think this writer could easily be one of my favourites.
It's definitely worth a read if you're into fantasy.
Chance has a secret of his own, that he has never told anyone, ever, only his Grandfather knows and helps him. There are twists and turns in this book that keep you turning the pages! I've bought both the next 2 books in the series and can't wait to read them. I think these will be books that I will share with my daughter too as I think she will love them and they are suitable (so far) for a younger reader!
Sadly after going through a lot of life things like romance and relationships, I did find myself eye-rolling at a lot of things that were said or done.
It's very cliché and predictable.
I did find some bits OK though and cute.
Would I continue on with this series? Maybe.
We will see.
Hold this space!
Really loved this 'Fledgling'.
