I discovered Gerald Hansen with Hand in the Till, which was an absolute embarrassment to read because I would laugh chortle and guffaw in public (on the subway, in coffee shops) ...

I cannot believe he has done it again, but Fleeing the Jurisdiction is hilarious, gripping, and pulls you in like that tractor beam in Star Wars... I don't know where he gets his plot lines from, but he takes it and runs with it, in a way that few authors are able to do, yet again, the third time around..!

An absolute joy to read, highly recommend avoiding hot beverages while reading this book!

I couldn't wait for the third book in the Flood/Barnett series, but it was well worth the wait! Gerald Hansen makes his characters come to life, they just jump out of the book at you. It's a TITANIC size laugh fest from beginning to end. Hoping beyond hope this ensemble of wacky characters are destined for another book in the near future.
WARNING: Just like the first two books, if you share the bedroom with someone, these books should NOT be read in bed. You will keep them awake with all the laughing out loud!

Two families, one Irish, and the other mostly American, find themselves trapped on a budget cruise ship in this hilarious book that had me flipping the pages to find out what happened. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a fun, fast read. There are many twisting storylines, from British Secret Service agents trying to recruit the passengers on the ship (or are they?), to Dymphna's sordid holiday romance, to the strange but hysterical friendship between Fionnuala and Aquanetta. But the main story is between lifelong enemies Ursula and Fionnuala, together on a ship in the middle of the Atlantic away from their comfort zones. And you'll never believe what happens. This book has it all: humor, suspense, exotic locales (Morocco and Puerto Rico), and plenty of Titanic tomfoolery. You won't be disappointed, and it will make you appreciate your family more.

In this latest installment of the "Flood Family Saga" Fionnuala and her demon brood have signed on (well, more like "been impressed onto") for a working vacation on a Titanic 100th Anniversary Memorial Cruise. Unbeknownst to either of them, her sister, Ursula Barnett has also signed on for the cruise, but whereas Fionnuala is working in the bowels of the ship, Ursula is in First Class. The cruise ship is a leaky old tub on its last voyages before going to the breakers. How Ursula and her arch nemesis Fionnuala fare is a richly comic tale, replete with turns of plots and twists of fate. Throw in an Italian Romance for daughter Dymphna and brother in law Jed's involvement with MI6 (or is it MI5?) and you will be chuckling every page. A great book to read while waiting in the dentist's office, though you might get some strange looks as you start to laugh!

For those reviewers complaining about these books being too crude, lewd or lascivious, please: I hear much worse standing in line at the local Wal-Mart sometimes. Or in the words of Archy the Cockroach:

As I finish the third series about Ursula and the Flood family, I finally saw a lot of situations come to closure. Still could read more about them, but the author may have left thing as completed as possible given the characters could go on forever.

I loved this book. The author has that great Irish wit and uses it to the full. Fabulously humorous characters well fleshed out in their absurdity and many crazy plot strands endlessly mingling make this an excellent read. I can't begin to convey the bizarre storyline but it is very very funny. I loved the babies Beeyonsay and Keanu the best. Hope his other books are as entertaining. This would make a great read aloud story for someone sick in bed. It would cheer them right up and probably make them well again (if laughter is indeed the best medicine).

The much-anticipated third installment of the Barnett-Flood family feud has brought everything full-circle. In Gerald Hansen's hilarious action-and-adventure-packed (...and almost touching) Fleeing the Jurisdiction, the Floods and Barnetts have taken their petty and hostile pursuits of vengeance and destruction off of dry land and outside of the comfort zone afforded by the city limits of Derry, Northern Ireland. They've expanded their jurisdiction out onto the international waters of the North Atlantic and embarked on a true voyage of the damned aboard the 100th-Aniversary-Titanic-Excursion in the middle of the ocean... where anything goes. And with this crew of un-medicated, deranged, self-centered, greedy, God-fearing, deluded posse of fools -- the 100-Years-of-Misery-Titanic-Memorial-Cruise aboard the Queen of Crabs is the perfect setting for the decades-old venomous rivalry between this family-divided to further unfold.

All of the players remain very much true-to-form with regard the characters we first met in Embarrassment of Riches and further grew to know in Hand in the Till: authentically misguided, self-serving and just plain hysterically pathetic. From Ursula to Fionnuala, from Jed to Paddy, from Dymphna and Siofra to the rest of the clan with their ever-expanding criminal records. Thrown into this milieu are some new and recurring secondary characters that, despite being innocent bystanders within the unfolding drama, are perfectly suited for the high-seas adventure that Hansen flawlessly fuses together in this bona fide voyage of hilarity for the reader. Nothing will surprise you in terms of what these ill-fated characters are capable of, but everything will astound you in terms of the new heights of corruption and depravity that can be achieved by these creatures.
